What We Should Be Looking Forward To, Starting January 20th
Martin Falbisoner, 2013

On January 20th, 2017, Donald Trump takes the big stage. He makes history as the oldest man elected, the least politically experienced man elected, and the first billionaire real estate mogul as the 45th president of the United States. As a student of history, I have enjoyed watching this election play out. I like knowing that I'm living through such an important and iconic part of history.

Some see this upcoming presidency as an abomination on American values and a disgrace to the electoral system, but others see this as a great change for America and a way to fix Washington DC.

There are many things Republicans, Conservatives, and/or Trump supporters are looking forward to starting January 20th of this year. Many of these are things Trump said on the campaign trail and others he said from his 100 day plan. These ideas are what people are looking forward to because they want to see a change in Washington DC.

First, Trump has said he wants to impose term limits on Congress. This is something the people have been asking for for a while now. This would mean a constitutional amendment would have to be passed. This is a tough task because two-thirds of the House of Representatives and the Senate would have to approve a proposal that limits their power. It's not impossible though. In 1992, the 27th Amendment was passed restricting Congress from increasing their salaries. It took 200 years to be ratified, but limiting Congress' powers can be done.

Trump also said he wants to limit the power of foreign lobbyists. As part of his 100 day plan, Trump wants to implement "a lifetime ban on White House officials lobbying on behalf of a foreign governments," and "a complete ban on foreign lobbyists raising money for American elections." Lobbyists have a lot of influence on which laws are passed and Trump feels foreign lobbyists shouldn't have any influence on our government. This is just another reason Conservatives are interested in Trump.

He also wants to renegotiate foreign trade deals. Trump wants to "renegotiate NAFTA or withdraw from the deal under Article 2205," and "withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership." Renegotiation trade deals is something Trump's supporters feel he will excel at being a business man. This renegotiation and withdrawal is something that the American people were asking for, and Trump wants to do something about it.

Besides his key plans like repealing and replacing Obamacare and ending illegal immigration, Trump plans to simplify the tax code and cut taxes on the middle class. He plans to pass the Middle Class Tax Relief And Simplification Act which is "designed to grow the economy 4% per year and create at least 25 million new jobs." The plan will cut the number of tax brackets from seven, to three, and the business tax rate will be cut from 35 percent to 15 percent to increase jobs and better businesses.

There are many things Republicans, Conservatives, and/or Trump supporters are looking forward to starting January, 20th 2017 and these are just a few. I believe this change will be good for America because the country has been struggling for a while and it's time for a change. It's time the people start speaking and our government starts listening. I just hope we can stay united and not divided.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
