For my fellow class of 2017 classmates and I, sophomore year will come to a close in a few short weeks. Most college alum will tell you that freshman year is the best year of your college career. I think that sophomore year has been just as good. Sophomore year has been full of great friends- old and new- great times, a few lessons learned, and of course a lot studying too (don't worry mom and dad). There are many reasons to celebrate sophomore year.
One of the great things about being a sophomore is that I know what's going on. The upperclassmen can tell the freshmen apart from a mile away because they look absolutely clueless when it comes to college life. As a sophomore, I don't have that dumbfounded look on my face anymore. I know where most campus buildings are located, which bars aren't strict on fake ID's, and how many nights I can procrastinate on an essay and still make an A. This year you would not find me at many fraternity parties. On game day, I understand how to give directions to a certain spot in The Grove and how early to leave to get a seat in the student section. I also know the ins and outs of Oxford and that there are, in fact, good restaurants other than Bouré. Don't get me wrong though, Bouré is fabulous.
Another special aspect of sophomore year is being on the other side of sorority recruitment for the first time. It was stressful, not to mention it required hard work at times but it was a unique experience nonetheless. Learning the recruitment process and going through round after round with my sisters definitely bonded us. As a member of a pledge class of over 100 women, it is difficult to get to know most of my sisters during freshman year. However, the many hours of rush practice and full days spent at our sorority house really brought us together and created a true sisterhood.
Living off campus in a house of my own was also a new adventure this year. Signing the lease definitely made me feel like an adult. Living in a house full of my closest friends was probably one of the best parts of college so far. I always had someone to confide in, I had multiple closets to look through, and, unlike the dorms, I didn't have to share a bathroom with 30 plus girls.
I have learned a lot from sophomore year, met some great people, and made unforgettable memories. I am now a seasoned college student and am ready to take on junior year.
