Looking at the Fashion in Every Decade

I have always been one to pay attention to fashion because it is something I have always had a passion for. One thing my mom always did, since my sister and I were younger, was to take us shopping and make sure we had cute clothes to wear, so it has always been something that was a part of my life.

Every decade seems to have its own iconic style. One decade's fashion that I always find interesting is the 20's. This decade was full of below the knee dresses, fringes, pixie cuts, and fun sparkly hats. I always wonder what it would be like to wake up and put on a dress every day. You'll see this kind of fashion pop up around Halloween time every year.

Another decade that is prevalent in the fashion world is the 50's. What always comes to mind for me is the movie Grease. This is one of, if not my favorite movie ever. I always think of high waist bathing suits, skater type dresses, polka dots, poodle skirts, and red lips. Let's also not forget Sandy's iconic leather black pants with pumps and an off the shoulder black shirt at the end of the movie.

One decade that I see fashion come back from today is the 70's. We always think of hippies when we think of this decade, but some of the fashion is actually coming back. The first style that comes to my mind is bell bottom pants, whether it be jeans or the printed pants we see everywhere. The 70's was the decade of bell bottoms, and we see this is almost every girl's wardrobe today. The 70's color scheme seemed to be full of yellows, browns, and oranges. We also see lots of headbands, platform shoes, and peasant tops, which also made a comeback

One thing I love doing is looking at old pictures of my mom and her friends from high school. At one point I always thought it was so interesting to see what was in style back then. Lately, however, it seems like a lot of their style is coming back! For example, things like Chuck Taylor's, acid wash jeans, denim shirts, leggings, and off the shoulder shirts are all clothing items that were popular in the 80's, and they are all things that have come back today. The 80's was also a time of big hair, which I wish was still in style considering my hair is super curly and big. I always say I belong in this decade more than any of the rest, including my own.

The 90's was the decade that I was born in so it's hard for me to pinpoint exactly what the style was. I always look to Britney Spears for help with this one, it brings me to think of denim, bright colors, mini skirts, crop tops, and see-through dresses. It's fun to compare this to the past few decades.

Today, in 2016, the style seems to be all over the place depending on what your own personal style is. I've been seeing a lot of chokers recently, which I think is a trend that came back from the 90's. We wear leggings on a daily basis, and the denim fad never faded in my eyes. It will be cool to see what was iconic from our time being teenagers in our twenties and for our kids to one day make fun of what we used to wear, that is of course until the same style comes back for them.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
