It is easy to get caught up in the little steps of your projects, assignments, goals, relationships, and life in general. However, it is vital to step back and remember why you are doing what you are doing and where you are heading.
This past week, I had 3 midterms, 2 projects, countless meetings, and loads of homework. I became overwhelmed when looking at all of the little details and trying to do perfectly on everything. By Wednesday I called my mom and she reminded me of something very important, she told me, “One less-than-perfect grade will not ruin your entire life, you have to look at the bigger picture.” After we finished speaking, I looked at the big picture of my life. I thought about the degree I was pursuing, about the job I wanted after graduation and about the family that I eventually wanted to start. I realized that one mistake or struggle would not prevent me from achieving everything that I plan to do in the future.
Here are 3 reasons why you should take a step back and look at the bigger picture.
- There is so much more to life than one test, one project, one breakup, or one bad day. Remember your long-term goals and why you are doing what you are doing.
- Stress causes wrinkles. Looking at the bigger picture will make you less stressed which will keep you looking and feeling younger, longer.
- Struggles only make the journey more memorable. If life was a walk in the park all the time, you wouldn’t have anything to look back at. All these speed bumps in the road only build your character and add to the unique story that is your life.
Next time you’re stressed, call your mom, take a step back, and remember the awesome places you are heading.
