A Look Ahead At Terps Football

A Look Ahead At Terps Football

We are three months away from the start of Maryland football, which means it's time to take a look at the Terps squad heading into the 2015-2016 football season.

Offense

Wide Receivers

We all knew that the offense was going to take a hit this year after star receiver Stefon Diggs declared for the NFL, but recently projected number one wideout Marcus Leak leaving the school for “personal reasons" and other wide receiver Daniel Adams also leaving the team has left the Terps searching for their new number one receiver. My prediction on who that will be is sophomore Juann Winfree. Winfree was a true freshman last year with a couple TD's in the Terps' games vs. Indiana and Michigan State, and is expected to get the ball a lot more with three receivers gone from Maryland's rotation.

Quarterbacks

With C.J. Brown gone from Maryland after what seems like forever, the QB position is up for grabs, and five QB's get to compete for the starting spot: Caleb Rowe, Shane Cockerille, Perry Hills, Gage Shaffer, and Daxx Garman. Rowe was 2nd string to C.J. all of last season, but suffered an injury to his leg and was out for the remainder of the season. Hills was 3rd string last year and played in a couple of games due to C.J. and Caleb's injuries. Cockerille was primarily a scout team QB last year, but stared to dress for games due to other QB injuries. And finally, the new guys: Shaffer is a new recruit that will presumably red-shirt his freshman season, unless he drastically impresses Coach Edsall. Garman is a different story. He just transferred to Maryland as a graduate student from Oklahoma State and will play his final season of college football with the Terps. My prediction is Caleb Rowe for the starter. Even though he was injured most of last season, he knows the Maryland offense best, and should win the position over everyone else.

O-Line

The Offensive Line suffered some losses in the offseason as center Sal Conaboy and guard Silavno Altamirano graduated, but they should still be solid with plenty of guys to fill their position, including previous ESPN Top 25 recruit Damien Prince to hold the line together, as well as lineman Derwin Gray, if he recovers from his injury quickly enough to start the season.

Running Backs/Tight Ends

The Terps still should be solid at both of these positions as starter Brandon Ross returns, and 2nd string running back Wes Brown also returning, despite the Terps losing running back/wide receiver Jacquille Veii after he left the program this offseason. The tight ends should be fine as well as starter P.J. Gallo returns along with other bigman Derrick Hayward to provide solid hands and blocking to the Maryland “O."

Defense

D-Lineman

Out of all positions, I think this one suffered the most by graduating seniors. Anchors Darius Kilgo, Kieth Bowers, and Andre Monroe Jr. all graduated, leaving the D-line in desperate need for some new guys. Luckily Maryland's top recruit, Adam McLean, is coming in next year as a D-lineman, and tackle Quinton Jefferson should provide the most immediate support along with recent pickup Oseh Saine.

Linebackers

Maryland lost five linebackers to graduation, but I believe they once again have the depth to make up for it. The top performers to take the starting jobs in this position are Inside linebackers Jermaine Carter and Brock Dean, as well as outside linebacker Cavon Walker. Star standouts and previous outside linebackers Jessie Aniebonam and Yannick Ngakoue, have been converted to defensive ends as Maryland's defense switched to a 4-3 scheme in the offseason.

Safeties/Corners

I think this position will be by far the most talented for the Terps this season. I look for corners Josh Woods and Sean Davis to have breakout seasons, along with the constant pic-six threat Will Likely. The safety position should be filled by either Anthony Nixon or A.J. Hendy, who sat out all of the 2014-2015 season with a suspension.

Bottom Line

I believe the Terps' positions that need most work are the QB and defensive line. As long as the new guys coming into the program can make an immediate impact in their respective positions, the Terps should be looking at a very solid season again, with another trip to a bowl game.

The first two weeks of classes have come to an end and they have been anything BUT easy. It seems like life has been serving up more bad than good and in all honesty, the only thing you want to do is crawl under your covers and hide from the rest of the world.

Although this seems like the best solution, it is also the easy way out. Take it from the girl who took basically a whole week off from her life because she just could not handle everything that was being thrown at her. This caused her to feel extremely lonely and even more stressed out for being behind in classes that JUST began.

11 Things We Learned From Brooke Davis

"What's more important? What we become or how we become it?"

Brooke Davis

"She was fiercely independent, Brooke Davis. Brilliant, and beautiful, and brave. In two years she had grown more than anyone I had ever known. Brooke Davis is going to change the world someday, and I'm not sure she even knows it." - Lucas Scott, An Unkindness of Ravens

Brooke Davis of the hit show One Tree Hill was the it girl - she had it all, or so we thought. She started out as a stuck-up, shallow, spoiled, head cheerleader who didn't have her life together. She slept around a lot and loved to party - sounds like your typical high school teenager right? Wrong. B. Davis had so much more to offer. Caring, loyal, and outspoken, she has taught us some valuable lessons throughout the 9 seasons that OTH was on the air:
