Long road trips are something to look forward to as well as something to dread for a few main reasons. I recently drove from Orlando, FL to Lynchburg, VA by myself. Needless to say, I have a love-hate relationship with long road trips. Here are the variety of emotions that a long road trip entails, as explained by Taylor Swift.

1. Hour one: the excitement

The beginning of a road trip is one of the most exciting parts because you still have no idea how tired you are going to get in the upcoming hours.

2. Hour two: concert time

One of the best parts of a road trip is the endless singing you get to perform for all your luggage. Hopefully no one notices your super intense jam-session as they drive by.

3. Hour three: race time

You cannot deny how fun it can be to *safely* pass other cars that you were tailgating for the past ten miles on the highway. There is no shame in celebrating a small victory.

4. Hour four: ticket time

Practicing your surprised look for if you get pulled over for speeding. "I had no idea I was going that fast, officer..."

5. Hour five: bathroom break

Having to rush to find the next exit because you have been waiting to use the bathroom for the past forty miles. Finding a McDonald's has never been so relieving.

6. Hour six: passing hour

When you have to pass the car that has been going twenty-five miles under than the speed limit. #SorryNotSorry

7. Hour seven: dream team

It is nice to be around the same few cars for a couple states. Unexpected friendships are the best, especially on such a long journey.

8. Hour eight: Siri's constant instructions

When the map reminds you every ten feet exactly where you are going to turn. "OKAY I GET IT, I WILL TAKE EXIT FORTY FOUR IN EXACTLY THREE TENTHS OF A MILE."

9. Hour nine: "What is life?"

After so many hours alone it gets harder not to question what life is and who you really are.

10. Hour ten: ALMOST THERE

When you only have two hours left of this seemingly never-ending road trip.

11. Hour eleven: insanity

After driving eleven hours by yourself, it is easy to be overwhelmed with tiredness and craziness.

12. Hour twelve: it's the final countdown

"You have arrived at your final destination." The sweet, sweet taste of victory.

Growing up on an island, I never really went on road trips, so it was a fun twelve hours with a few ups and downs. Remember to drive safely, never stop listening to T-Swizzy, and do not text/tweet/snap and drive!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
