Long distance relationships may seem intimidating, knowing that you can't see your significant other as often as you'd like, but one thing you should know is that they are completely worth it. If you both put the effort in, and keep up on communication, you'll learn that being in this kind of relationship isn't much different than any other kind of relationship. I'm not saying it's easy, it's never easy, but you'll learn quickly that there are more positives in a long distance relationship than there are negatives.

For one, you learn how to be more independent. You learn that you can make time for both yourself and still be in a relationship. Balancing a long distance relationship with school, work, and other hobbies is a lot easier because you don't have to worry about making as much time for your significant other. Although you'd probably prefer to give up your own time for more of their time, you just have to make the situation as best as possible. Keeping yourself busy will help distract from the fact that you might miss them and will give you more opportunities to accomplish what you need to.

You also learn really quickly that if you can deal with the absence of your S.O. for long periods of time, you can deal with just about any stresses that come your way in a relationship. Distance can be stressful, but it also honestly makes you a lot stronger, as you are together for more than just somebody to hug and hold. Distance forces couples to become closer emotionally, and also shows you the true meaning of patience. You might learn that counting down until your next date seems similar to the feeling of counting down for holiday or vacation. It's another thing to look forward to, to celebrate, and to count down towards. Not everyone has this connection of excitement when they see their significant others, so be excited that you still get butterflies when they finally see you.

The goodbyes may be hard, the waits may last forever, and the lack of seeing your person may be something you believe you can't handle, but trust me, it's worth it. If you can make it through the distance in a relationship, you can make it through other hardships and become a better couple. Distance is never perfect, but it's definitely well worth the waiting.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
