An Open Letter To My Long Distance Best Friend

Miles apart, but not in our hearts.

To my long distance best friend, long lost sister and forever person,

I know sometimes it feels like we’ve drifted apart. We may not talk everyday anymore or tell each other every detail of the awesome weekend we had, and sometimes life manages to get in the way of us.

But you know you’ll always be my person. You might be hundreds of miles away, but if you think about it, that’s only a few inches on a map! Distance is tough, but when life gets hard you’re the first person on my list to call, you’re the first person to hear about my good and bad news, you’re the person I’m counting days on my calendar to see when we’re back in town.

Our friendship will only get stronger with the distance. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, right? It leaves us more to talk about during our usual long, late-night sleepovers in the summer. Because our lives have changed so much, there’s so much for me to tell you, and I’m sure there’s things you’re dying tell me, too.

The reunion we will have this summer will be legendary. We’ll be right back to our old ways again, driving around late at night blasting music in your car, raiding our local grocery store for some sweet midnight treats, staying up way too late watching Netflix and sending dumb Snapchats to each other while sitting two feet away from each other.

I love and miss you, my long-distance best friend, and I’ll see you soon.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
