The Long Awaited Return Of 'Gilmore Girls'

"Oh I can't stop drinking the coffee. I stop drinking the coffee, I stop doing the standing and walking and the words putting into sentence doing." - Lorelai Gilmore

Throughout middle school, I loved "Gilmore Girls" and lived for new episodes. When I knew that it was being canceled, I was devastated. That was in 2007. Now, nine years later, "Gilmore Girls" is getting a chance to come back in four, 90-minute episodes to premiere on Netflix. Lauren Graham (Lorelai Gilmore) tweeted on Jan. 29 confirming the rumors. Now what is "Gilmore Girls"? Allow me to explain...

1. Rory Gilmore

Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) loves books, coffee and making sure her mother is proud of her. Her best friends consist of Lane Kim and, later into the series, Paris Geller. However, Lorelai Gilmore is her best friend of all time. The series opens when she's almost 16.

2. Lorelai Gilmore

Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) also lives for coffee and is a fast talker who likes to butt heads with Taylor Doose, a town selectman, and her mother, Emily. She's dealing with the struggles of having Rory when she was 16 years old.

3. Luke Danes

Snarky owner of Luke's Diner, Luke Danes (Scott Patterson) has more facets than anyone expected in episode one such as his aversion to cell phones, television and his love of... well, you'll get to that.

4. Lane Kim

Lane Kim (Keiko Agena) is one of the best friends to Rory. She was brought up in a religious house, where the threat of eternal damnation and Hell were ever present but rock and roll (and sex) were tempting, too. This creates for some interesting scenes in which Lane's character is present for only a few moments before she runs away, to go home for dinner. But wait, wasn't she just eating a slice of pizza?

5. Paris Geller

Paris Geller (Liza Weil) and Rory are rivals during their time at Chilton Preparatory school. Paris is known for her cut-throat attitude and her sudden outbursts during times that are less than appropriate.

6. Emily Gilmore

Emily Gilmore's (Kelly Bishop) main goal in life is to see her daughter, who had a child at sixteen, happy. However, her way of going about this is not exactly the most straightforward and well thought out. She frequently says and does things that maybe you shouldn't say.

7. Richard Gilmore

Richard Gilmore is a little wiser with his choice of words than his wife, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have flaws, too. Quieter at times, with his nose stuck in a newspaper, Richard usually lets Emily take control when it comes to "corralling" Lorelai. (Edward Herrmann passed away in late 2014.)

8. Sookie St. James

Sookie St. James (Melissa McCarthy) is known for her laughable antics. She makes mistakes in the kitchen at the Independence Inn, sometimes lighting things on fire that shouldn't be, sometimes cutting her hand open. She frequently gets emotional over what she should be cooking and whether or not someone will like what she's prepared.

9. Michel Gerard

Michel Gerard (Yanic Truesdale) is all of us, at times. He is snarky about life, hates everyone to a degree and he is a perfectionist when it came to things that affected him. Michel's French accent creates miscommunication and frustrates him to no end.

10. Kirk Gleason

Kirk (Sean Gunn), lovable, free falling, Kirk. He makes mistakes constantly and frequently says the wrong thing. He is always comedic relief and he is second-hand embarrassment to the extreme at times, but who can't love Kirk?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
