It's a big year for J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter fans everywhere!

Harry Potter the Play

In June of 1997, the first book of the Harry Potter series, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," was published in the United Kingdom. Since then, the famous series by J. K. Rowling has been translated into 73 languages and has received critical acclaim everywhere. Fans across the world were heartbroken when Rowling released what would be the last book in the series, but now after 9 years fans will be rejoicing. This summer on July 31st, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" will be released and on June 7th, the stage play will have its opening night at London's West End in the Palace Theatre. With the photos of the cast members released, the excitement can hardly be contained.

Harry, Albus, and Ginny

The play is written by Jack Thorne and is based off of an original story is written by J. K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany. Directed by Tiffany, this will be the first Harry Potter installment to be officially on stage. The theatre is asking that audience members arrive to the venue at least an hour early to go through security.

Synopsis:

"It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places." (Harry Potter the Play)

Ron, Hermoine, and Rose

The cast will include Jamie Parker as Harry, Noma Dumezweni as Hermoine, Paul Thornley as Ron, Alex Price as Draco, and Poppy Miller as Ginny. There is still very little known about the 2-part play, but it is known that the play will combine Harry's life at the Ministry of Magic with his sons life at Hogwarts. (NY Daily News)
