We all get lonely sometimes. Loneliness comes for a number of reasons. Sometimes the loss of a relationship can spur that loneliness, or even just being separated by distance from someone you love. Here is an original poem I wrote about that exact feeling:
L O N E L I N E S S
creeps up on you
like a thief in the night
taking one painful memory at a time
until it has stolen your inner light.
L O N E L I N E S S
is nights of restless sleep
dreams you wish were real
empty sheets reminding you
of the wounds that won’t heal.
L O N E L I N E S S
Makes you doubt
not just others, but yourself
reminding you of what you’ve lost
every time you see the smiling photos on the shelf.
L O N E L I N E S S
sits heavy upon your chest
enjoying your pain like an amusement park ride
stealing your breath
and uncovering every scar you’ve tried to hide.
L O N E L I N E S S
Is an unwanted guest
that you can’t bear to send away
it shows up at the worst times
but for some reason, you let it stay.
L O N E L I N E S S
revels in your sorrow
and poisons your heart
it’s here yesterday, today, tomorrow
determined to keep you and happiness apart.
