Lokai Introduces Purple Alzheimer's Association Bracelets
Lokai

On Feb. 1, Lokai announced a new line of purple bracelets in support of the Alzheimer's Association. Lokai has hosted similar campaigns for other organizations such as the World Wildlife Foundation and Susan G. Komen. For every purple bracelet purchased, $1 will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association to support their care and research. With a minimum contribution of $300,000, the proceeds from purchased bracelets will help in ways we cannot imagine.

The scariest part about Alzheimer's is that we never know who will be affected by the disease or when that will occur. By funding the Alzheimer's Association, there is a possibility that if that time comes, there will be a cure. For those who have a loved one with Alzheimer's, this is an even larger hope.

The following are a few facts from the Alzheimer’s Association:

Alzheimer’s is the only cause of death, in America's top 10 causes of death, that cannot be prevented, slowed, or cured. It is ranked at number six.

A serious issue regarding Alzheimer's is the fact that there is nothing that can be taken for it, not even to slow its progress.

One in three seniors die with Alzheimer’s

or dementia.

This statistic automatically makes us think of all the people in our lives who are seniors. It is beyond difficult to imagine one in every three of them passing away with Alzheimer's or dementia.

Almost 2/3 of those with Alzheimer’s are women.

One of Sigma Kappa Sorority's main philanthropies focuses on Alzheimer's. I recently attended a leadership conference for the sorority where the speaker asked four women at each table to stand. We watched as many of our sisters stood to represent this statistic. This statistic is scary, and it is real.

Someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s every 67 seconds.

The amount of people who are developing Alzheimer's is growing rapidly. As you are reading this right now, someone is developing Alzheimer's.

While more than 90 percent of those with the most common types of cancer have been told of their diagnosis, only 45 percent of those with Alzheimer’s

report being told.

Imagine not knowing that you have Alzheimer's. For 45 percent of those with Alzheimer's, this is the case.

Throughout the month of February, we have the opportunity to purchase these purple Lokai bracelets. For $18, you not only will be the owner of the newest Lokai, but $1 will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association thanks to you. Each bracelet, in the grand scheme of things, is going to help change lives.

Be the change.
