It is a game that everyone plays when they are out for recess in elementary school, the infamous, duck, duck, grey duck. No, that is not a typo. No, I did not misplace grey duck where goose should be. It is duck, duck, grey duck and that will never be changed.
Coming to college has influenced my life in many ways but one way is how I noticed that Minnesotans do things the right way. Duck, duck, grey duck being one of them and trust me, there are many reasons this childhood game is not duck, duck, goose.
First off, why would a goose be with ducks?
This is one that has puzzled since I first heard the game played wrong. There is no logical sense as to why a goose should infiltrate the circle of ducks, wouldn’t it feel strange for all there?
It is boring. Simple as that.
My favourite part of playing duck, duck, grey duck, is when you would go around the circle and instead of just saying ‘duck’ you would add fun colours in front of every single one, which would mess up everyone else playing. Then, the chosen one would have ‘grey duck’ and they would have to chase you. You get to make the game fun, instead of just saying duck over and over and over again.
Geese are quite disgusting.
Calling a friend a goose is such an insult. Now, maybe if you are playing with other people that you do not like, it might be worth it to call them a goose. The word sounds gross, they poop everywhere and they are not cute like a duck is.
Minnesotans do it better with grey duck.
There are many things that Minnesotans do right, and one of them is duck, duck grey duck. It is a fun tradition and the way it should be done. The fact that it is a Minnesotan thing makes it even better because we are a special breed just like the grey duck.
We can agree to disagree but Minnesotans must stand together on this. We should not let our children call each other geese when they are growing up to be wonderful people. It is degrading and simply disgusting. So I know that duck, duck, goose will eventually disapeer and be taken over everywhere by duck, duck, grey duck.
