Lizzo has been behind the glass looking in for years. With the sudden popularity of her 2017 single titled "Truth Hurts", she saw instant recognition from women and men alike. This anthem is all about loving yourself enough to get rid of the negativity in your life and just plain old being honest, even if the truth hurts. The chart-topper was featured in Netflix film, "Someone Great" in April. While this may be Lizzo's most known song it's certainly not her only hit.
Her entire album, "Cuz I Love You" is essentially a love letter to herself in addition to her fans. Whether they're men or women, gay or straight. Lizzo addresses everyone in a way that sends chills down your spine. She may very well be the first female singer to do this. It's clear by her delivery that her music is about changing lives and not about making millions. And, we love her for it!
In her song "Like a Girl", Lizzo takes a unique approach to the common phrase "like a girl". Lizzo decided to embrace the phrase and empower women by encouraging them to do everything like a girl. The lyrical masterpiece immediately makes you want to get up dance, and just love who you are at that very moment. She gives nod to both Miss Lauryn Hill and Pro Tennis star Serena Williams while also showing some to love to TLC. If that doesn't make you swoon for her I don't know what will.
While it would be easy for her to only promote women, Lizzo does the furthest thing from that. She, in turn, embraces men of all sizes, ethnic backgrounds, and so much more on her track "boys". Singing, "I like big boys, itty bitty boys I like a big beard, I like a clean face I don't discriminate". Through and through Lizzo is an ally for everyone facing adversity. Though she maintains, even while appreciating men she doesn't need them, to exist happily. She knows "exactly how I feel".
Lizzo has my seal of approval. Her album has given my 5 AM morning commute a touch of sugar and spice. I'll be patiently awaiting her next album because let's be honest she's "good as hell".
