Lizzo Helped Me Find My 'Soulmate,' And She Treats Me Good As Hell

Lizzo Helped Me Find My 'Soulmate,' And She Treats Me Good As Hell

Her simple yet telling album cover says it all. In a world full of tall, white, and skinny, Lizzo epitomizes vulnerability and exhibits the beauty of color and confidence with every tweet, Instagram post, and appearance she makes.

A few years ago, a song called 'Good as Hell' came on on my 'Discover Weekly' Spotify playlist. As soon as I heard the words, "I do my hair toss, check my nails, baby how you feelin'? Feeling good as hell!" I knew I was listening to an absolute BOP. An instant soundtrack to my life. I started to wonder who this astonishing vocalist and songwriter was, but more importantly, if there was more. All this time I was growing tired of repetitive love songs and a broken record of overplayed pop music--little did I know that Lizzo's album full of feel-good singles, 'Cuz I Love You,' existed.

"A lotta two-faced people show me both sides, so I figured out I gotta be my own type."

Some lyrics I can finally appreciate. No trash-talking about exes, reminiscing about former lovers or putting me in my feelings. I'm not saying that songs that do that are bad, I just wanted to hear less spitefulness and more self-praise. I have always been aware that 'beauty comes from within' and all of those other cute little overused clichés, but this kind of attitude really puts things into perspective. People's true colors always come out eventually. The only person that is really there for you at the end of the day is you.

"True love ain't something you can buy yourself
True love finally happens when you by yourself"

Here's another darling cliché—'money can't buy you happiness.' Although Ariana Grande would beg to differ, I have to admit it's true. You can have all the designer bags and sports cars in the world, but that would only bring temporary, unfulfilling pleasure. Lizzo's assorted half-clothed, stunning Instagram pictures are perfect illustrations that it's okay to defy society's expectations and feel good about yourself.

In a perfect world, we would eat whatever we want and not worry about what others think about it. However, society has placed such high expectations on what we as women should look like. While many women are sucking in their stomachs, photoshopping their flaws away, and promoting weight loss products, Lizzo is essentially transparent on social media. She's not afraid to show some skin or dance like nobody's watching. Shoutout to Lizzo for calling out this gender stereotype and pushing for the normalization of ALL body types!

"Cause I'm my own soulmate, I know how to love me, I know that I'm always gonna hold me down"

The word 'soulmate' is often tied to a significant other, but these lyrics clarify that you can be your own! When you fall out with your friends/family or relationships just aren't working out for you, you have to be secure in knowing that some paths are just meant to be walked alone.

So here's to embracing yourself, worrying less and showing off more, and being your own soulmate!

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
