So, I have nine cats and three dogs at home. They’re technically my family’s pets, but they are mine too. My nine cats are named Spirit (the eldest cat), Chip and Dale (brothers), Sherlock and Juneau (technically my cats when I have my own house), Monkey and Banana (sisters), Woody, and Dewey (our newest kitten).
Every time I mention the amount of cats I have, everyone always seems so surprised and confused as to how people can live with so many cats. Lucky for me, my mom works at an animal hospital, so the costs for their shots are lower than usual, but otherwise, living with nine cats can be fun… and annoying at the same time.
Here’s a day in the life of me living with all nine cats:
1. Waking Up In The Morning.
Every day begins with waking up with at least one of my cats sitting or standing near or on top of my head. This is usually my wake up call – no alarms necessary. I usually don’t mind this, unless one of the cats decides that I need to be awake at four or five in the morning. Then, I’m a bit peeved.
2. Getting Dressed For Work.
And, of course, to the cats getting dressed means its playtime because I’m moving around so much and clothes and flinging around. Clothes are obviously a plaything along with my poor, poor feet. I can’t even explain how many times my feet have been bitten, scratched, or played upon by all nine felines.
3. Trying To Eat Breakfast.
All eyes on you. Since we’ve basically taught the cats that being on the table when food is there is a no no, they just eerily watch you eat whenever you’re in their visual range. This makes for an awkward, audience for me to feast in front of.
4. Leaving The House For Work.
Every single time I get in my car in the driveway and turn towards my house’s window, I see the cats staring me down as if mocking me or hoping I would come back inside and play or give them even more food. It can be scary sometimes when I don’t expect it and I see a little head watching me from afar.5. Coming Home From Work.
Coming home, I’m greeted by some friendly, furry faces. I mean, I know these faces are only excited to see me because I feed them and supply them with love, but I still appreciate the welcoming no matter how shallow.
6. Dinnertime.
Shake a bag of treats, anything plastic, or go near the place where the cats are fed and you will hear a large stampede of paws coming your way. There is no hesitation, no patience, and no mercy as you feed these “chickens”. Just make sure you don’t get in the way, because its eat or be eaten.
7. Going To The Bathroom.
I can’t even be alone during personal times such as going to the bathroom or showering because the cats always open the doors and decide to bug me. I don’t understand their fascination with needing to be near me all the time, but I don’t mind it too much. It gives me company.
8. Trying To Do Homework.
I can’t even be alone during personal times such as going to the bathroom or showering because the cats always open the doors and decide to bug me. I don’t understand their fascination with needing to be near me all the time, but I don’t mind it too much. It gives me company.
9. Going To Bed.
I prefer to sleep with my door closed in order to keep it as quiet and comforting as possible. My cats do not like this, as they claw their way under my door and rip up the rugs and ruin my door. It’s super fun! I love hearing cats trying to break down my door while I try to sleep.
Now this is not to discourage anyone from having a lot of animals, but more so to show how it is to live with them. Having nine cats is great, but financially if my mother didn’t work at an animal hospital I could not afford these guys on my own. So make sure you have the finances and space for so many pets if you ever decide to get them.
