Sometimes Living In A Sorority House Is A Struggle... Sometimes.

The best worst thing to ever happen to me

Sometimes Living In A Sorority House Is A Struggle... Sometimes.

Living with one roommate is tough enough, but imagine living in close quarters with only girls, and the closest male is probably living in a fraternity house three blocks away.

I have only been living in my sorority house for about two weeks, but I have already learned a lot about how things function and, I must say, I have never made a better decision, but it is not all cupcakes and rainbows when it comes to living with this many girls. It is a lot of hard work and you will struggle to make things work out the way you want them to.

Living with all of my sisters and best friends has been the best experience, ever, but going from living on a coed floor with boys next door, and a significant level of testosterone constantly present, did not prepare me at all. Girls all take long showers and a long time in the bathroom, while boys barely even shower. I have waited in line to shower, and even had to go to a different floor to take a shower.  However, getting ready with your sisters is also one of the best parts of living here, because you can listen to music, and freak out about hair and nails and whatever else there is to freak out about.

Another huge reason living in the house is the best thing to ever happen to me is everyone’s willingness to share shoes, clothes, and accessories. It sounds a little too good to be true? Is it really possible for girls to share everything and not have any major arguments about it? Yes, and it is all due to sharing 20 or more closets with your closest friends.

Sometimes living in a house with so many girls is a struggle. The main reason is that there is always something to do. No matter how hard you try to do homework, there is always the distraction of your big who lives next door wanting to talk, or your best friend wanting to get froyo. Sometimes, you just need to sit down and call your mom, but there are always interruptions. This is exactly why I call this experience the best worst thing that has ever happened to me. After only two weeks of living here, I cannot imagine what it would be like to not be with these wonderful ladies every single day.

Whenever you come home after a long day of classes, or you need to vent about how this guy is being an idiot, there is always someone you can talk to. If you need to laugh or cry, these girls will be by your side, and that is exactly what I was looking for in a sorority. Throughout the past two weeks, I have come to realize that this house is exactly where I need to be.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
