Living outside the box

You, and I, as well as the majority of Americans have one very specific goal set when we entered into our adult life. Owning a home, a major part of the American dream. We all envision ourselves with That traditional house, a white picket fence, and lush green lawn. That has been the staple for the American family for generations.

However a current look at today's economy, riddled with predatory loans, foreclosures and bankruptcy, the American dream seems to be getting a harsh wake up call. Despite the blatant obvious danger of the subject I still see my friends and peers struggling to obtain that golden mortgage. If only there were other options, besides an eternity at home with parents or the hamster wheel of apartment living.

This brings me to the new fascination of homesteading, or urban farming..or the tiny house movement. So many options that have been recently brought to my attention..not all new. I am a part of a rare group of 20 somethings that owns my own property and although I don't live in it, I know the possibilities. There is land to be bought and cultivated. Imagine instead of buying a home..build a home!! It sounds far fetched but its rapidly growing into a popular trend that can actually prove beneficial in the long run.

I've seen so many articles and videos and blogs about this new Phenom. The information is abundant for those who seek it. The most important part about it is you own your home! Truly..no mortgage..no rent..imagine the things you could do with that extra cash?? Travel the world, start a new business, who knows? All I know is I'm ready to take this interesting journey, and I invite you to join me.

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Barn Pros

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.
