Living A Meaningful Life

It is our passion that give us true life.

Living A Meaningful Life
Frances James

Life is short. And when I say short I mean completely unpredictable and time itself seems to only go faster. One moment you are a kid hesitating to get on a school bus for the first time and the next thing you know is that you have your own daughter that age. You stand there and for a moment you wonder how this all happened. How life seemed to sneak away from you. How time turned minutes into hours and hours into days and then days into years.

Well, this is life. Trying to grasp time is something we've all tried as well as something we've all failed. But with the world's dismissal to stop, we begin to realize the precious notion of our lives. That now is not forever. That right now is a gift. A once in a lifetime experience. A moment to never be the same. So the hope is that we cherish it. The hope is that we live each moment to the absolute fullest as well as admire the gift it is to be alive.

So what do we do with our precious time? We ask ourselves what it means to be alive. What it means to truly be happy, and content, and inspired. And one of the things that we will discover is passion. Passion; the ability to love ourselves and the ability to make the most of our time here on earth. With passion, we can turn a dull day into a meaningful one. With passion, we ourselves can have meaning. So despite our busy lives, we must make time for the things we love. The things that make us smile, or laugh, or even cry. The things that give us hope. The things that make us dream.

When we engage in our passions, we engage in our hearts. We make space for real fulfillment. We honor our callings. And by doing so we feel peace, we let go of resentments, and we find our true selves. Having passion gives us purpose and a reason for living. Our passions are what save us when we feel alone or worthless. They give us direction and they help guide us to feeling stronger and more grounded. By practicing our talents and our God-given gifts, we ignite others to do the same. We give light to the darkness, and joy to the pain. Our passions make hard days doable and bring gratitude back when all else feels lost. Our passions give us true life.

The great thing about passion is that everyone's is so vastly different. One person's passion may be a good sense of humor while another person's passion might be painting. Every passion has a place and every person has a purpose on this earth. Everyone has a dream they can chase.

But even though this is true, we may wonder what it is. We may wonder how we can make our goals possible. We may even wonder how to manifest what we feel into words, into thoughts, and then into actions. So first we must breathe and have trust in the process.

Allow yourself to speak your greatest dreams and hopes out loud to the universe. Allow yourself to believe in the possibility of great things. Make it known to yourself and others what you want for yourself and your intentions. When we believe in ourselves we can do anything. And when we love ourselves we can do everything. God will honor your commitment and doors will open for your dreams. You just need to take one step and then another. You just need to keep going. And keep striving and believing.

Keep your passions alive. Make time for yourself and the things you love. If not now, when? So do it now. You won't regret it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
