We’ve all been guilty of it! Pulling out your phone during a meaningful moment in your life and Snapchatting for your whole friend list to see! Using Snapchat is a new phenomenon that has captivated many countries around the world. With an instant ‘share,’ your Snap can be visible to your entire friend list. But here are 7 reasons you should reconsider what’s in your story.
Concert snaps, man!
We are human beings and our best way of learning and comprehending is through seeing it with our own eyes, not a phone screen! If you constantly hold up your phone during a concert, concerning yourself with the right angle and right caption, you are wasting precious time of a good song. A Snapchat video has a 10 second time limit. Add another 10 seconds to think of a ‘lit’ caption, that’s a full 20 seconds taken out of your concert, and more importantly your life! And for those who only watch the concert through their friend’s Snaps, your whole experience is through your phone. I mean did you even ever watch the concert with your eyes? Of course, it’s great to Snapchat all your friends to show what a good time you are having, but maybe limit that Snap to about a couple videos. That way you have more time to view the concert and dance to your favorite songs!
Holding a phone in the air = No views
Back in the day, phones that only could only flip open and close. Not too bulky, easy to put in your pocket. Those were the days when Razor phones ruled the world. Nowadays, the majority of us have Androids and iPhones that are massive! Three out of five of my friends have iPhone pluses or really big Samsung galaxies. Imagine holding that up in the air for an extended amount of time. You are blocking the view of people behind you! Because of all the people recording everyday events through their phones, it is a common thing to see ten phones up in the air! Well, news for those people, they block the people behind them, which forces everyone else to put up their phone because that’s the only way they can see it! Don’t be that person and put your bulky phone down!
We get it, that food is delicious
We all get those snaps of the most delicious meal ever made, whether it’s at an organic café or just a beautiful Acai bowl! But is it really necessary to put that on your Snapchat story? I have those friends who are avid food posters and it just makes me jealous. I’m over here eating my bowl of Saimin (ramen noodles) with some SPAM, while my friends are over at some fancy café eating crepes! Don’t get it twisted, though; we’ve all been guilty of it. Instead of taking a picture, how about actually enjoying the taste of the food? Take that first bite and relish in the idea of a phone not coming between you and your delicious meal.
Snapchat car karaoke. Why is that still a thing??
We see you out there, Karaoke Snapchatter! It’s awesome that you’re belting out those high notes, but posting the whole song can be time-consuming to you, the user, and the viewer. Unless you’re Queen B singing next big hit or spitting out sick lyrics like Yung Money, cut down on the song lyrics just a tad. But hey, if Snapchat karaoke is your thing, sing on my friend! I am guilty of it from time to time because you can always catch me killing those Nicki Minaj songs with my best friends Malia, Alyssa, and Victoria!
Careful what you send!
Ever have that crazy ex or potential crush on Snapchat? Yeah, be careful of what you post. We have all heard the dangers of Snapchat! Whether that is sending that basic dog filter to your ex in hopes of getting him/her back or direct messaging a random person. Snapchat has so many dangers when it comes to maintaining your love and social life! Also be careful what you put on your story! Your story can be taken out of context. A Snap that may seem innocent to you could possibly be offending to someone else. Although Snapchat may seem fleeting because of the 24-hour limit on Snaps, it still follows the rules of any other social media platform: what you post can be seen by others and will be remembered. So be careful when you press that blue send button or add it to your story!
Way too long stories!
Attention friends who press the send button to their story way too often! I’ve seen stories as long as 3 minutes! That’s a lot of Snaps. What could possibly be that important to snap every part of your day? Everyone has a daily routine but that doesn’t mean it needs to be posted about every minute! I recommend posting what needs to be posted. But don’t overdo it!
Are you really enjoying it?
Remember Snapchat is a fun way to express yourself, and to show people what you are up to! Just follow the list and make sure your Snapchat is something you want others to see. Snapchat stories shouldn’t be for bragging about the fun times you are having and making others jealous! It should be about saving those memories and being happy with the life you have. But most importantly don’t change yourself or your ways to please other people. I have been guilty of this numerous times! You will start having happiness when you put yourself first and stop worrying about FOMO (Fear of missing out)! Instead of capturing life’s moments through a lens, put down the phone and actually live in the moment.
