We live in a society of extremes.
The girl who binge drinks to black out vs. the girl who has never drank before
The girl who is a die hard republican vs. the girl who is a die hard democrat
The girl on a juice cleanse diet vs. the girl who supersizes it at McDonald’s
The girl who sleeps with everyone vs. the girl who is waiting until marriage
Going to extremes makes it hard to find your place and balance in society. If you feel ambiguous about something it makes you an outcast.
How don’t you have an opinion on that?
Why don’t you know who you’re going to marry yet?
Whether we accept it or not, this society of extremes has negative repercussions on our actions. We are so hard on ourselves for either being too much or too little that we are self conscious in our ideas and feelings.
This society of extremes creates addicts. Addicts to alcohol, addicts to sex, addicts to sobriety, addicts to abstinence
Society tells us to deny ourselves but to buy more~
Stop spending all of your money on clothing but have the most abundant closet in your dorm
Stop drinking before you get sloppy but be the most memorable, fun, and social girl at the bar
Stop working out so much because you’re becoming obsessive but keep all of your muscle tone and endurance
We are taught to be “the best versions of ourselves” but we don’t know when to stop looking for that. Nobody teaches balance anymore. Everyone teaches extremities.
It’s ok to drink when you’re 21, it’s ok to be intimate with your boyfriend/ girlfriend, it’s ok to have sweets, it’s ok to have a lot of accomplishments in your career path… but everything in moderation.
[Moderation- the avoidance of excess or extremes]
A little more moderation, a little less perfection.
