If there's one thing I've learned about living in the great state of Texas all my life is that it's a very unique place to live compared to anywhere else in America and I think any Texan can agree.
1. Everything is bigger, literally
The egos, the food, the football stadiums, the smiles. If you ever get the chance to go to the Texas State Fair you'll know what I'm talking about.
2. It's "queso"
Having visited different states and seeing on their menus that they call it "cheese dip" is a complete disgrace.
3. Football... need I say more?
Football in Texas is more like a religion than anything else. If you're not spending your weekends in the fall at or watching an NFL, collegiate or high school game, what are you doing?
4. Whataburger
The ultimate after-football games experience.
5. Will I-35 ever be finished?
I remember when I was in eighth grade and a friend of mine said the construction would be complete in 2017. PSYCH.
6. Less than two centimeters of snow? School's canceled
This one is my personal favorite. I once got a full week off of school because the roads were "too slick." It was sunny and 55 degrees one of those days.
7. Tex-Mex for every meal is normal
It's normal, and it's good, what more could you want?
8. "Y'all" is in the everyday vocabulary
"Y'all're," "y'all'd've," "y'all's."
9. Getting out of Texas is the longest part of the road trip
Texas is so big that you know you're finally getting somewhere when you hit the border and are in a different state on your road trip.
10. Pictures on the side of the highway in a patch of bluebonnets
The state flower is the center for all family portraits, and they always seem to grow the most on the side of the highway.
