Living In My Apartment

It is a good experience

Living In My Apartment

It has been a full week since I have moved into my new apartment, and let me tell you it has pretty cool. I get my own space, my own freedom and I can get my alone time, instead of a roommate that is in a dorm always there. If I want to be by myself I can go to my room and shut the door and be by myself.

I was a little nervous about getting to school and back, but it has been quite easy. There is a shuttle I can take from my apartment to school, which has worked extremely well. I just show them my school ID and get on the shuttle, and off to school I go. There are also really nice people I can talk to while I’m waiting for the shuttle and sometimes when I’m on the shuttle, that makes it a little better.

I have to admit I had to call my roommate one night to come pick me up in the apartment complex because I got lost. I was so embarrassed about it, I didn’t even want to look them in the face. Of course they made fun of me a little. There were people out so I had to pretend I knew where I was going, but I did ask two people who had no clue where my building was. In my defense it was at night and it was dark.

It is kind of weird, but my favorite thing about the apartment is that we have a kitchen table. Yeah that’s weird. I like it because for the past two years of college I had to eat on my bed, so it’s nice to have a real place to sit while eating my meals. It makes it feel like a real home instead of just a room.

Another good thing about living in the apartment is that I like my roommates. We are most part respectful of each others things. Not going into others room when they are not there, not eating each others food and being quit in the morning when the others are sleeping and we are getting ready in the morning. I’m really lucky to have roommates like that.

We never see one of our roommates because she never is here. It is good and bad. It is good because she was a random roommate so the three of us friends get to be alone together. It is bad because we don’t get to know her because she seems like a nice person of what we know about her.

I am definitely excited to see what the rest of the year has to bring with the apartment, roommates and of course the important school. I know occasionally we will get in a little tiff, but that is with all roommates, there will always be disagreements around the apartment. I think this is going to be a great school year, and I cant wait what it has in store for me.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
