Recently I’ve been thinking about the meaning and purpose of life, specifically in the regards of death. Lately, it seems like I keep stumbling across testimonies of certain peoples lives that were taken to soon, and the thoughts and feelings of their family members. This leads me to think what is our purpose? We search our whole lives trying to be the best we can be but what if it isn’t about us. I just listened to a church sermon about teaching the next generation what it means to live your life as a wise figure and how we can be the example for the younger generation. This got me thinking.
A lot of times I find myself consumed with selfish thoughts. And I think that’s fair to say everyone lives that way at points in our lives. We become filled with thoughts about how to find happiness and success for ourselves but maybe that’s where we’re going wrong. When we unselfishly give ourselves to others we are willing to be an example of the way life should be lived. If you are willing to help the next generation find God’s purpose for their life you’ve accepted that your life is insignificant in a grand scheme of things. What you do with your life and your purpose makes your life significant.
It’s a weird way of thinking about it but the truth is this: we strive for selfish perfection all of our lives then we have kids and families and it isn’t about us anymore. It is never about us. Life isn’t about personal accomplishments. It’s not about who has the nicest car or the biggest paycheck. We all will die. We all will fade away some day and what will be remembered is the wisdom we stand for. How did we live our lives in regards to helping others thrive and find purpose? Life is one big circle of life and death but how we stand as a representation of Christ will be the symbol that is remembered.
