As over two months have passed since the beginning of the Premier League Season, now is the perfect time to assess how the season has played out so far and what this means for the end of the season. From a glance, the top of the Premier League table seems normal enough, with several of the typically best teams such as Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all in close proximity. However, there is one team at the top, challenging for the title, that hasn't been at their peak in recent years: Liverpool Football Club.
With Liverpool currently situated in one of the coveted Champions League spots, it seems obvious that they would be considered a major title challenger. Despite this assumption, many people saw Liverpool as just a potential challenger for one of these spots rather than the title itself. With the way their season has played out thus far, it doesn't seem unlikely that they could even go as far as to win the title.
Over the last few seasons, the club has gone through a major overall. From the firing of manager Brendan Rogers in 2015, the appointment of the widely respected manager Jurgen Klopp and the addition of three new starters over the summer of 2016, the current state of the team is vastly different than that of the team that finished in the middle of the table of the season a few seasons ago. With the addition of a new goalkeeper in Loris Karius, center back Joel Matip and winger Sadio Mane, Jurgen Klopp has plugged up the holes in the team that had kept them from reaching its potential.
The additional defensive strength, caused by the signing of the highly-rated Karius and prominent Matip, as well as the additional offensive firepower and pace because of the signing of Mane, perfectly accompanies some of the other superstars already present on the team. For example, attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho has been one of the best players of the Premier League for the last few seasons and with help of the fellow Brazilian Roberto Firmino, Liverpool has one of the most potent attacks in the Premier League.
The fact that the team is considered to have high-quality players isn't the only reason that Liverpool could finally find themselves in possession of the elusive Premier League title. At this point in the season, Liverpool have already played Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea (all of which are major title contenders) as well as the reigning champions Leicester, and have either beaten or drawn all of them, with their only loss coming to Burnley. Thus, the hardest part of the schedule is over, which should allow Liverpool to easily achieve the success that they seek.
The combination of these players and Jurgen Klopp's high-pressure style have caused the reemergence of Liverpool Football Club, which could culminate in a Premier League Title in the near future.
