Often times, I feel so scatter brained. I am running from one place to another with so much on my mind. I become so thinly stretched I am no longer able to focus on the task at hand.
We all feel like this from time to time. We all feel like we have a million thing to do. Perhaps this is true for you, but that doesn’t mean you should sacrifice living in the moment.
This is where the challenge of truly being present in the moment and where you are in life becomes applicable. To fully get the best out of every situation you are in, you must learn to become present where you are.
Being present means forgetting all of the other things in life and giving your sole attention to just one task. You must push aside the problems and the to-do lists running around in your mind and choose to be completely living in the moment.
Being present in life’s situations can be used in many various aspects.
At work or school, you can be focused on the one task and hand, rather than worrying about all the other things happening at work, school, or in your life in general. By being fully present when you are working on a task, you will produce much better results and feel better about it when the work is done.
At home, you can focus on just one thing you need to accomplish in the house at a time. Whether that be cooking, cleaning, or being with your family, just choose to be completely committed to the moment.
With your friends, if you have agreed to go out and spend time with them be sure to be fully in the moment there with them. It’s unfair to your friends if your mind is a million different places. Give them all of your attention and be with them. Let them know you're listening.
Even when you are relaxing and taking some much needed me-time, make sure to be present. If you are trying to unwind and your mind is still all over the place with the past week and the week to come, then you aren’t truly relaxing. Take your time to unwind and get to happy place full of true relaxation because you deserve it.
There are so many ways we can choose to be present in the little things we do every day. We must first determine that we want to be present, and then make every effort to gain that bliss.
Maybe you aren’t really sure how to be present in the moment. That’s okay! None of us have really been trained to only focus on one item a time. If you are unsure if you can completely be present in a moment, try using meditation. Sit down for maybe ten minutes a day and just focus on yourself.
Take note of your breathing, your body, where you are, and how you feel. Use this exercise to help yourself understand what it means to be present. And, once you realize how great it feels, you’ll be ecstatic to put it to use in your everyday tasks.
Being present in a moment truly has many benefits. You will be more productive at work and school. You will feel a stronger, general sense of calmness and happiness in life. You will feel connected to the people in your life that you have given the time to be fully present with. And, the list goes on and on.
Being present where you are is a choice that you have to make, but it is a choice that will change you and how you look at life for the better.
