As college students, we are all committed to getting our degrees. Most of us work hard, go to class, finish our homework, and maybe even get a job in-between it all. We fulfill our responsibilities. But that doesn't necessarily mean we're fulfilling ourselves.
As we grow older, we sometimes start to see ourselves falling into a routine. We carve a path in our lives every week: wake up, eat breakfast, go to class, grab lunch, go home, do some homework, go to work, go home after work, eat dinner, and sleep. Maybe our lives switch up a little bit throughout the week - perhaps we don't have work one day, or our class schedule differs on another. But we learn to accommodate these things. The point is, it is not hard to accidentally fall into a rut without realizing it; and oftentimes, we forget what life is truly all about.
Yes, we all have obligations that we must perform. This is normal for every human on the planet, no matter his or her age; however, it is also extremely important to remember that you are allowed to let yourself deviate a little bit from your "set" schedule. Actually, it may even do you a little good to switch things up now and then.
A college campus, especially one as big as UCF, lends a myriad of opportunities for its students to get involved and become active. It has clubs, activities, sports teams, and greek life for any and all types of interests. From a Quidditch Team to an International Relations Club, UCF makes itself available to students in many ways. If you have ever wanted to join a computer engineering club or write for an online publication, then you should. The only thing stopping you is yourself. If these things bring even a little joy to your life, then it should be a top priority - because putting yourself first is one of the most rewarding things you could do for yourself.
I have had many people tell me that all they want to do is travel. They want to see the world, experience different cultures, broaden their horizons. As life takes its course, it may become harder and harder for us to have the opportunities to travel. As we become adults, we take on more responsibilities, such as a home, pets, kids, or a full-time job. We're in college. If what you truly want to do is travel, there are many study abroad programs that are available. Internships are often offered in different locations across the country. These things are ours for the taking, if we only extend our hands out to them.
At the end of the day, we all only have one life to live. The last thing we want is to wake up one morning and ask, What am I doing with my life? Wake up and smell the roses. Be excited to start your day (even if it's Monday!) because it means that you have another day that is entirely up to you. This life is yours for the taking - so take it.
