Well, it’s official. That-which-shall-not-be-named ended last Tuesday and a lot of us couldn’t be happier that it is done. Unfortunately one of the major results is that of division. It’s sad to see the level that this divisiveness has risen to. It has come to the point that I saw an article that quoted a late teen/early 20-something say of his family, “My family refused to support Hillary Clinton and I’m not sure I can forgive them.” I mean, come on guys. I know we all have our opinions, but to not be willing to forgive your family for something as temporary as an election? Really? It truly makes me sad.
But it’s not enough to say “We aren’t going to do something anymore.” We need to replace the divisiveness with something else. That’s where the title of the article comes in. Let’s live like it’s Christmas all the time. It seems like when Christmas rolls around everyone seems to unify and be friendly to everyone. People seem to live out the verse, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
This message, however, was not meant only to be listened to at Christmas. As a matter of fact, when the angels called out that message it probably wasn’t even winter based on the fact the shepherds were in fields. This message is for all the time not just when we feel like it. I’m asking all of you to please do as you do during Christmas. Don’t change that. Be a blessing to others. Sing Christmas carols and spend lots of time with family. But don’t stop it after Christmas. Don’t let another year go by letting the spirit of what is good about the Christmas season be put on hold for 11 months.
There are a lot of people that are helping with this though they might not describe it quite the same way. Those people you see on the sidewalk, on your way to class, or even on the subway who always seem to have a smile are the ones who can brighten your day. You don’t even have to know the person, but just simply seeing them smile can change your whole day around. They might not even be having the greatest of days, but that doesn’t have to stop someone from smiling.
Even if you seem to having a terrible day, there is always something to smile about. Even if it’s that God has allowed you to live another day or even bad enough you can smile and say, “Thank you, Lord, that not every day is like today.” It’s also amazing to see people who have the ability to reach large groups of people spreading the message. There are quite a few Youtubers who are doing just that, but most recently the Youtube A Capella singer Peter Hollens released a song entitled December Song putting into song exactly what I’ve been saying. Live like it is Christmas all year long. Here is the song. Enjoy listening!
