A Little Scripture Goes A Long Way

It only takes ONE verse to completely change the way you think.

A Little Scripture Goes A Long Way
Jeannine Kelley

Do you ever doubt that God will provide for you? Do you ever feel like He's forgotten about you?

I've experienced these feelings a number of times. But every single time that I felt like I wouldn't make it through the hardship I was facing, God provided for me. He never fails to take care of me. NEVER. And I've finally reached a point where I can confidently say that I believe God is bigger than anything that I will ever face. It's easy to make that statement when everything is going our way. But if we're putting our trust in God's plan for our lives and taking leaps of faith for Him, things probably won't feel like they're going our way (because they're not—they're going God's way).

Back in the summer, I was watching a video on Emma Mae Jenkins' blog, cheerfulchitchats, where she challenged her viewers to memorize a Bible verse by repeating it throughout each day for one week.

I was so encouraged by Emma's video that I decided to give it a shot.

I chose a verse, wrote it on brightly-colored sticky notes and put them in places where I knew I would see them on a regular basis. I stuck one in my car, one on my bathroom mirror and one on my laptop.

My verse was Psalm 94:22 (ESV):

"But the LORD has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge."

So, does this Scripture-memorizing technique relate to the questions I posed at the beginning of this post? Yep!

Repeating the same small piece of God's Word to myself multiple times a day over the course of a week erased my anxiety. It calmed my worries. It diminished my doubt.

When I was on my way to my job and felt like I didn't have the strength to make it through my long shift that day, I remembered:

"But the LORD has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge."

On days that I felt insecure and began focusing on all of my flaws, weaknesses, failures and mistakes, I reminded myself:

"But the LORD has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge."

Do I still have problems in my life? Absolutely. But knowing that God will protect me, strengthen me and carry my burdens makes enduring life's difficulties so much more doable.

The overwhelming peace that I received from this verse left such an impact on me that I just wanted to share it with you all. I encourage you to seek out what God is trying to communicate to you this week. Pick a verse to meditate on, pray about it and see how God uses it to better reveal Himself to you!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
