A Little Pick Me Up From A College Junior

We need to remember whose image we are created in and how worthy we are.

What happened to midterms? Ya know, having half the semester left to bring those grades up?

Now, we have about four weeks left and it’s all going too fast.

There’s paper upon paper due, research projects, reading, and the dreaded group projects where you always get stuck doing most of the work. (When will teachers learn?)

Registering for classes finally cements the fact that you only have a couple weeks left before you have to start a whole new round of classes.

Want to know the best part, though? Thanksgiving is just around the corner. And that means there’s a break. Break from the stresses of classes, professors, sports, and organizations. Just some nice time at home with your family and some good, real food.

I don’t know about you but I’m getting real tired of having to guess what kind of meat is under the thick, baked on sauce. I’m starting to realize that cereal isn’t an acceptable meal for all times of the day, and that I can only eat so many salads.

I can’t wait for the time off, away from college and the expectations.

I feel like with all that’s been happening this semester and over the last week, people have forgotten their value in this world; that they are worthy of more than a vote or a test score to define them.

We need to remember whose image we are created in. We are all brothers and sisters, under one nation, in God we trust. So that’s what we need to do.

TRUST GOD. Trust that He has a plan for us, that He wants the best for us, no matter what we have to go through to get there.

He has a vision for us and when we boil down someone’s character to one thing, judge them for one act or belief, we are not being good neighbors.

John 15:12 reminds us: “A new commandment I give you, that you love one another as I have loved you.” God sent his only son to save us. Jesus laid down his life for us so that we could live. Don’t you think we should be willing to put our trust in someone who put their trust in us?

Remember this and all of the sacrifices made for us to live, to vote, to breathe, to eat. There are many people who fought for us from the beginning. Let’s take a moment to be grateful for all that we have and those who believe in us.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
