Tonight I was sitting in my living room thinking of what I would write about this week. Should I talk about school? About my family? My relationship? I got nothing. I couldn't think of anything that really inspired me or something that I felt the need to share. I was at a stand still. It didn't help that I had just finished a 12-hour shift, or that I had been studying for the past two weeks for a huge exam. I was physically and mentally exhausted and had no motivation to write. One of my roommates sat down next to me and lifted my feet onto her lap. She looked at me and said, "You've had a long day," and started to rub my feet. One of my other roommates laid down on the couch and I asked, "What should I write about?" She immediately started listing things off. Write about your favorite TV show or movie. Write about how you feel about voting. Write about Ty (my boyfriend). After I sat there for a few minutes, I realized exactly what I needed to write about. I needed to write about the love I have for my roommates.
They are the people I go to when I'm stuck. The people I go to when I need a good laugh, or an important opinion. My roommates are my second moms, sometimes my nurses, and often times my motivators. They are the ones that I spend rainy sundays on the coach with. The ones that I cry with and the ones that I have random dance parties with between classes. The ones that rub your feet after you have had a long day, even though they hate feet. The ones who help you think of ideas for your article. The ones that can always make you smile with their contagious laugh. We see each others struggles and we see each others triumphs, but amongst everything going on we still manage to yell an "I love you" as we walk out the door.
My roommates keep me sane. They are always there to assure me that this crazy life we choose to live won't always be this stressful or intimidating. They're the people that I genuinely want to venture through life with. My future bridesmaids. The destined god moms to my future kids. They are women that I hold dear to my heart and that I feel extremely lucky to have found so early on in life. These ladies are beautiful inside and out.
My roommates are my people.
Thank you Kara, Amy, and Andrea. I love you!
