Instagram has become a popular app that has pleased a diverse amount of people. The app allows you to capture and showcase your experiences/brand through scrapbook form. My best friend Jenny and I decided to create an Instagram page together (a project I am very proud of). I remember the day we discussed the idea on her dining room couch, we were both filled with excitement and delight. There were various steps we had to take before activating the page. We needed a name, a bio and an aesthetic. It may sound easy to come up with those 3 concepts but it really wasn’t. We wanted a name that was not only catchy but also fit our personalities, a bio that wasn’t too long and an aesthetic that showcased our talent and coherently focused on our brand.
The next time we got together we made sure that we were both prepared. Two notepads, two pencils, and two plates of thai food. We went through so many names that we burned through both of our erasers. One name proposal was we combined both of our names (Holly and Jenny) was holOjen, even though it was funny we both declined because it just wasn't us. As the sun started to go down and the time went by we decided to just take a break and resume another day fresh and renewed. It was honestly pretty frustrating because we just wanted to formulate the page.
A few days later we were conversing on the phone and decided to continue the naming process for our future page. Jenny threw some ideas in and as did I. We talked about our birthdays which are both in November, and then my wonderful best friend pitched the name “Alittlenovember.” When I said it, it just rolled off the tongue, it was perfect! The first step was done, after that, we just had to decide what our bio and aesthetic would be. Those two came easy after the was name set. Our aesthetic simply put is who we are. Our page showcases our art; we take pictures of beautiful places we’ve been and seen. The captions for our photos are poetry and quotes written by us.
On January 26, 2016, we posted our first photo on “alittlenovember.” Since then we have slowly developed our page into a project that we are so proud of despite the amount of likes or followers we get. By being a part of “alittlenovember,” it has given me the drive to take more pictures and has increased my will to write. I have taken fantastic photos that range from a stop sign accessorizing a sunset to divine autumn leaves. I have learned how to achieve photographic angles and techniques for my photos. I am more confident with my writing, and the new places and people I have met through “alittlenovember” are spectacular. The restaurants and cafes I have visited were phenomenal. Running “alittlenovember” with my best friend has been extraordinary and I am extremely grateful for Jenny and all of our supporters.
Sidenote: You made it through the article and past one of our pictures, so why not check us out on Instagram, you won’t regret it. @alittlenovember
