10 Things You MUST Give To Your Little This Year

T-shirts, canvases, letters- oh my!

It's almost the beginning of the school year and sorority spirit weeks and recruitments all over the nation are in full swing. Very soon, new members will be running home, learning all about their new sorority, and finding their bigs. I don't know about you, but I've been preparing for my little (or maybe twittles?!) since the end of last school year. I've bought so much apparel and painted many canvases. With preparing for my little, I asked myself and my friends what our bigs gave us and what we wished we would've gotten. As a result, here is a list of ten things I believe you should give to your little.

1. T-shirts

A must for the big-little basket is t-shirts. They don't have to be brand new. In fact, upperclassmen will often sell their old t-shirts for cheap. You should definitely get at least three generic shirts, tank tops, etc. and one stitched letter shirt, but feel free to get more.

2. Canvases

In addition to t-shirts, canvases are a must. Whether you paint them yourself, pay someone to paint them, or buy old ones from upperclassmen, you should be giving your little at least four of these as well.

3. Letters

Every new member wants to display their letters proudly in their room. Paint or buy some sorority letters (definitely not as big as these lol) to help them do so.

4. Stickers

Stickers are cheap and can be used on water bottles, laptops, and more, so buy a few. A great place to buy them is redbubble.com.

5. Water Bottle/Cup

Not a necessity, but I always find cool sorority water bottles or cups really cool. There are some really cute ones you can order off the internet.

6. Hat

If your little is even remotely a hat wearer, she absolutely needs a sorority hat. It's great for taking beach pics or going to class.

7. Blanket/Flag

These are also not a necessity, but sorority blankets or flags can be a great way to get your little something bigger that doesn't cost much. You can make the blanket yourself by buying fabric and tying it together or just order a blanket or flag off the internet.

8. Pens/Pencils

Pens or pencils with your sorority letters on them are a great gift for your little. She can use them every day in class and they're super cheap!

9. Keychains/Buttons

Help your little show off her sorority on her backpack or car keys with keychains or buttons. They're super cheap and a great gift.

10. Picture Frame

Lastly, you should definitely give your little a cute picture frame with a picture of you and her in it. That way you can always be around, even though you're always around in person too.

Big-little baskets differ by school, sorority, and financial status. Some littles receive a different basket every day and some littles receive a basket with barely anything in it. No matter how much money you spent or how big your basket is, remember that your little will be grateful for anything you give her. After all, the greatest gift you can give her is being a great role model, a trustworthy sister, and a true friend.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.
