Dear Future Little

We're going to be the one's laughing and reminiscing on the "good ole days" together while we sing along to Bodak Yellow 50 years from now.

Being in a sorority doesn't mean that you pay for your friends. Being in a sorority doesn't mean you're a partier. Being in a sorority doesn't mean you're the "mean girls of campus".

Being in a sorority means you get to join an organization where you put leadership above yourself, where Saturday morning service projects are fun because you're with people who share the same passions as you, and where you meet the people that make you question how you've made it so long without knowing them.

Being in a sorority also means that you start a family of sisters.

First, you get a big and then you become a little. Once new members come into the sorority after you, you get to be the big sister. One of the best parts, for me, about being in a sorority is that I get to take a little.

So, with that being said . . .

Dear Future Little,

I'm so happy you made the decision to go Greek and find your home away from home. Being in this sorority is going to teach you so many things. It's going to teach you how to handle conflict, how to be professional, how to be a good leader, and it will also develop your character and make you the best version of yourself.

I can't wait to take every step with you along that journey.

I can't wait to hang out with you and reveal who I am to you. I can't wait to see you get initiated. I can't wait to go on dates with you so I can help you through life's ups and downs. I can't wait to be your mentor. I can't wait to see you grow within our sorority. I can't wait to "mom" you.

I don't even know who you are yet, but I already know you're perfect. I promise that I will never let you go! I am always going to be there for you; don't ever feel alone. Come to me at any time of the day with your thoughts, worries, problems, funny jokes, or anything else. I'm your person.

If you ever feel afraid, anxious, or stressed, come to me. Call me at 3 am, I'll answer!

If you're sad, I'll give you a hug and buy you your favorite chocolate; we can watch your favorite movie and cry until we both pass out.

If you're happy, I'll still give you a hug and buy you your favorite chocolate; we can joke and laugh and tell each other stories 'til the sun comes up.

I can see it now: staying up all night having sleepovers and sharing our secrets with each other, learning all about each other, bonding over everything we have in common, and adjusting to the things we don't.

I can't wait to have a Snapchat streak that lasts for the rest of our lives, I can't wait to pick you up and go shopping together, I can't wait to experience life's journeys together!

In all honesty, we'll probably be those people in the nursing home in 50 years still laughing and reminiscing on the "good ole days" together while we sing along to Bodak Yellow.

As you can tell, there's a lot of things I can't wait for. But the one thing I can't wait for the most is getting to hug you and call you my little!!!

I love you already,

Your big.

Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
