As a new home-renter, I've discovered certain things make my house a bit more like a home. There are some that are practical, and others that are probably unjustified purchases that just make me feel better inside, but all are worth sharing with you.
A nice bath mat
I'm talking that memory foam s**t. You will not regret it. If you have multiple people showering you'll want a mat that is thicker so you're not just stepping on a damp piece of material. Trust me, that's gross.
Paintings, pictures, tapestries
Most college houses I've seen have plain, white walls. To me, this is suffocating. I need color and pattern and decorations! Add some life to your walls with pictures of friends from home, a statement painting or mandala tapestry.
Nice pillows or blankets, or both
Your bed will become your safe haven! It will be your retreat from class and annoying roommates. Invest in some really nice pillows or blankets. Even a nice duvet can be relaxing.
A quality rug
Especially if you have hard wood in your bedroom like me! I definitely enjoy getting out of bed and putting my feet on a nice rug. Look out for rug sales at Target! They have them quite often and sometimes Cartwheel also has discounts for rugs. The rug in the photo is from Target! I have the same one but in blue.
