Colin Kapernick is being dragged by most every media outlet for not standing up during the national anthem at a 49ers football game. The reason he is recieving so much attention is because the United States of America has decided that to sit down while the national anthem is sang/played is "a show of disrespect for those who fought for our freedoms".
Here is the problem with this. Thses veterans who fought for those rights, did so to ensure you had the freedom to decide for yourself. See, condemning Kaepernick for protesting the #BlackLivesMatter movement is the same as attempting to take away his freedom of speech. Kaepernick is allowed to sit during the national anthem and still have as much respect for soldiers and veterans as Blain Gabbert is allowed to stand.
The day we decide to force everyone to stand and display their nationalism for this country is the day we lose one of our freedoms. Can someone explain to me how that makes us different than say, North Korea? The biggest thing America has going for it was the idea that in this country, you got to be your own person. YOU had the ability to decide who you were, and who you wanted to govern you. Slowly we are losing these aspects. Now, you can't decide who you are. You have to be their definition of American, you can't be mexican, black, or Muslim. Through the electoral college we've lost the right to decide who governs us. We pick a person, who will decide while taking your vote "under advisment".
To say that Colin Kaepernick is disrespecting those who fought to allow him to do what he did: Where is your respect?
