A Letter to High School Seniors
Bailie White

Dear Senior,

You are halfway through your last year of high school. You have one semester left. ENJOY IT. I promise you will blink, it will be March, and you will wonder where the last 3 3/4 years have gone. Enjoy every “last” that you will experience over the last 5 months. Remember (and write down) every single emotion or memory that you want to remember. These next few months will be so so busy, but you want to be sure to remember it all. Enjoy it, but keep your grades up. Don’t slack off. YOU ARE ALMOST THERE.

Make sure you have all of your graduation stuff taken care of: cap and gown, invitations, senior pictures, graduation party, etc.

Start making friends with people you’re going to college with. You may be going to a school with lots of people from high school or you may be going to college all by yourself. Whatever the case, go ahead and start making friends.

Make sure you get all of your paperwork for college turned in. Double and triple check with your admissions counselor; make a checklist of everything you need to get done before you get ready to move in. You want to enjoy this coming summer and not be worried about a lot of college stuff. APPLY FOR LAST MINUTE SCHOLARSHIPS. DON’T MISS THESE DEADLINES.

Start making a list of everything you need for your dorm room. Talk to your friends in college; check all of the Pinterest lists and combine them and make your own list. Find cute things, talk to your roommate, and get on the same page! It will make shopping so much easier. Also, people might give you graduation presents at Christmas. GO AHEAD AND START A LIST (and write a thank you note)!! You do NOT want to get behind on thank you notes. Stay ahead on those!!!

Finally, spend extra time with your family and friends back home. You won’t see them nearly as often, and you will miss them a whole lot. Hug your parents extra tight at graduation. Give your siblings double the hugs before bed time. The next few months are going to fly by. Soak it all in. Make lots of memories. Be smart. Be proactive. Be awesome!!

Sincerely,

A College Freshman

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
