If you are like me there will be some major binge watching on Netflix this Winter, especially when snowed in. Instead of flipping through the "Watch Again" category, why not try one of these super rad, underrated movies found on a Netflix account near you.
1. Heathers
Set in the late 80's early 90's, this twisted tale of a teenage popularity struggle includes a little bit of everything: love, gore, suicide and big hair. Starring Winona Ryder, this movie takes you from the mundane routine of your everyday life and entangles you in a high school power struggle between three young girls named Heather. It is pretty dark so be warned.
2. Keith
Starring a young Jesse McCartney, this slightly strange story of a smart, popular girl falling in love with an outsider seems a bit stereotypical. However, the movie takes a complete turn when the main character discovers Keith has a big secret. What is the secret?? I don't know, I guess you'll have to watch to find out.
3. Dazed and Confused
If you're an old music loving, grass burning, bell bottom wearing hippie like myself- this movie is for you. Feel like you were born in the wrong generation? Watch. This. Movie. I gained a totally new appreciation for the 70's, and a young Matthew McConaughey and Ben Affleck. Basically, a bunch of upper class men are terrorizing the freshman in their high school and finding themselves along the way. Did I mention Matthew McConaughey?
4. Bridget Jones's Diary
Do you feel forever alone and yet find yourself crying over Hallmark once a week? Watch this movie. Funny, relatable (well, I relate) and will leave you feeling just over all really optimistic about your future love life. Bridget, who works in publishing, is a 32 year old single woman on a quest for true love. Also theres a second movie if this one is just not enough. And who doesn't love listening to a good British accent?
5. White Bird in a Blizzard
Set in an early time period of which I'm not totally sure, 80's maybe 90's, Shailene Woodley stars in a strange drama in which her mother mysteriously disappears. The entire movie is very eerie and leads you through a daughter trying to get to the bottom of her mother's strange disappearance. The ending will catch you completely off guard, I promise.
6. 10 Things I Hate About You
Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger (RIP) star in this 90's take on Shakespeare's original "Taming of the Shrew." This feel good rom com will leave you crying over Heath Ledger for sure.
7. Amanda Knox
Based on a true story, this documentary features not only just actors but also real characters in this remake on one of the most popular trials in history. Amanda Knox, an American student studying abroad in Italy, was being investigated for the brutal murder of her roommate. Did she do it? Guess you'll have to watch to find out.
8. Adore
This movie is odd to say the least but still one of my fav's. Centered around two Australian moms and their extremely attractive sons. This movie takes an interesting turn when both moms begins having affairs with the others son.
9. We Need to Talk About Kevin
Centered around a grieving mother dealing with her delinquent son, the mother must learn to live with the effects of her son's violence. Ezra Miller stars as Kevin and honestly makes this movie. Will definitely leave you questioning your life.
10. Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging
Hilarious movie that will literally make you feel like you're back in 8th grade. Super relatable to any girl and overall just a great movie. The gist of the movie is about a 14 year old named Georgia who is making her way through life, puberty and of course boys. 10/10
11. Stuck in Love
Following the complex and often difficult love lives of a writer, his ex wife and their two children, this movie is a good mix of love without all the mushy stuff. Good cast, good story line, overall just a great movie.
And there you have it folks, a list of underrated movies on Netflix (and a very brief description) brought to you by yours truly! So cozy up in bed during this "Winter storm" and get some much needed rest while watching a good movie or two.
