List of Things To Do During Christmas Break

Here's what I have planned for my break.

We did it, folks. We're officially out on break. And if you're anything like me, you've been thinking about this for a long time. "Who should I see first?" "What do I need to get before I go back to school?" "When can I visit family?" All of these questions ran through my head while I was supposed to be studying for finals. So here's what I've come up with.

1. Spend time with your family.

Okay, so this year most of us are on our own money when it comes to "buying" presents for people. But I just spent the past three months building my savings for a semester abroad, so in other words, there is no money. Looks like I'm going to be making everyone's gifts this year.

3. Get a massage.

If this sounds too self-absorbed or anything, it shouldn't be. You've just spent a whole semester working your ass off, learning how to adult, working at a job, and attempting to maintain a personal life. If that doesn't cause stress, then nothing will. Do yourself a favor by distressing somehow because you deserve it.

4. Plan ahead.

This summer I'm planning on opening an ice cream shop with my family but because I'm away at college, I do not have the time to physically help with the project. I'm taking this break to plan ahead so I have something to come back to in the summer.

5. Go out with friends.

This was my first semester at college and I definitely miss this part the most. These people made up my youth and after this semester of being on my own, I certainly want to go back and feel like my old self again.

6. Start a new Netflix show.

Does this need explaining? What better time than when we don't have an essay or research paper looming over our heads?

7. Bake with the family.

Something I remember from when I was a kid was baking with my grandma or mom. We wouldn't go all out and decorate but we would make some really amazing cookies coated in powdered sugar or ones with chocolates stuffed into the middle of a gooey sugar cookie. This year, I want to get back into that tradition.

8. Start a project.

Whether you're a painter, writer, filmmaker, entrepreneur, whatever, start something. If you find yourself bored, this is a great time killer. Productive too.

9. Roadtrip.

Roadtrips help me with my creativity. Usually, we have a set destination and are determined to get to it when we drive. But imagine the possibilities of jumping in a car and just driving with complete freedom to stop or go wherever you want?

10. Celebrate the Holidays.

It's the holiday season! How could I not include this? Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas everyone!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
