A lot of things can happen in the span of 108 years but one thing that nobody was holding their breath for was the biggest win of more than a century: the beloved Chicago Cubs making it to the World Series.
While I’m not a major baseball fan, let alone a GIANT sports girl (pun intended), with the Cubs curse finally being broken, it’s hard not to share the same happiness loyal Cubs fans share during this exciting time. Along with not being a true Chicago fan, I am a superstitious person who believes in things like 108-year-old curses that have been placed on a team a little more than a century ago. It started in the 1940s when the owner of a bar and his pet goat were chased out of his own bar and before leaving yelled out, “Them Cubs, they ain't gonna win no more!” After his outburst, the rest was history. There have been many attempts to try to lift the curse, from the new bar owner arriving to a game with a different goat to call a truce, to walking miles with a goat to lift this curse. One thing is for certain though: a plethora of things have changed since the Chicago Cubs have finally broke free from their long lived curse.
- Minimum wage was $0.40.
- Blacks and Hispanics weren’t allowed to play in Major League Baseball.
- Diet soda wasn’t a thing yet.
- The last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series, the Titanic hadn’t been built yet.
- There are people still living since the curse was planted and they’re lucky enough to see to it that this “curse” has been lifted and their team is on their way to greatness.
- Teddy Roosevelt was president at the time.
- Their once grizzly, brown bear of a mascot has long changed to the cuter, more vibrant, Clark the bear cub.
- Feeling a type of way yet?
- Places like New Mexico and Arizona didn’t exist.
- Bread wasn't pre-sliced before this. What a time to be alive, am i right?
- American Apparel would've reached its deise earlier on because Nylon wasn't a thing before this win!
- John Lennon was 5 years old.
- Hitler called it quits... on his life.
- It's only appropriate that they're mentioned just days before his or her big win, but our two presidential candidates weren't born yet.
- Speaking of, beautiful women around the world weren't allowed to vote!
No matter what anyone says, it won’t change the fact that this win will go down in history as the game that changed the lives of so many devoted fans and will be one for the books.
