1. First Kiss

No matter how small or significant, you will always remember your first kiss. Whether it was a small nursery school peck, or a full blown make-out session, you will absolutely remember the time and context of the situation, as it has culturally had profound significance.

2. First Love

Your first love causes you to experience emotions you did not know your body was capable of feeling, and thoughts you did not know your mind could create. This level of intimacy and depth will never let you forget your first love, the the emotions and motions associated with it

3. First Heart Break

Similar to your first love, your first heart break will mirror the same emotions and thoughts your body was experiencing, yet on the opposite end of the spectrum. Once euphoric feelings will transform into deep depression and sadness, experiencing lows you did not know existed.

4. First International Travel

The first time you leave the country is always a new sense of excitement. There is so much diversity amongst our own country, experiencing another country is sure to be something so different and exhilarating that you will never forget it.

5. First Car Accident

Although this seems rather gruesome, you will truly never forget your first car accident, whether it is a fender bender or love tap, or a serious accident. Your first car accident allows you to realize that you are not invincible, and small errors can lead to physical mistakes.

6. Prom

Prom is definitely an unforgettable event and period of time. From picking out your dress, to getting matching accessories, as well as the actual day of prom, the excitement associated with it will leave unforgettable memories. The actual day of prom often goes by very fast, so absorbing every moment of it is key to getting the full experience.

7. Passing the Road Test

Passing or failing the road test the first time is such a tumultuous event. You're excited that you have a newfound sense of freedom, or realized you are not invincible. If you pass the test you are now able to rely on your parents even less, and reach one step closer to more freedom, and these feelings of excitement will never leave your memory.

8. First Childhood Home

Where you grew up, met your first friends, experienced your first school, and built your own life are treasured events that will definitely go down as important "Firsts". Your first home is often your first experience in the real world, and serves as a point of appreciation to the people who raised you, in order to be grateful for the things that you have.

9. First Substantial Pet

Your first pet is similar to your first love (in a different kind of way), in the sense that you become attached to something you were never attached to before. You feel a sense of ownership, responsibility, and obligation to unconditionally love something that is not human, and allow it to live the best life it can.

10. Losing Your Virginity

Often considered the most highly coveted "first," a huge amount of importance is placed on the first time you have sex with someone, based on cultural norms. It is the first time you experience intimacy, perhaps love, and euphoric emotions, but it does not determine your self worth, lovability, or measure of your own character. Some say it is a marker of your maturity, but in reality that is for your own judgement to make.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
