We all have times in our lives that we aren't happy, even if you are the most positive peppy person, you will have an off day every now and then. When you are hit with waves of sadness I think that the best medicine is making a list of all the things that make you happy, and not just the usual things like wine (even though, that ALWAYS makes me happy) but the special moments in life that make you all warm, cozy, and you guessed it, happy. Just in case you might be lacking some inspiration, I don't have a problem sharing my list with you.

  • Sunsets
  • Seeing the stars on a clear night
  • Giving and receiving love
  • Opening a brand new pack of crayons
  • Feeling someone’s heart beat
  • Putting fresh warm sheets on your bed
  • Petting a puppy
  • Hearing your favorite song
  • Flowers
  • Wearing a new outfit
  • Feeling independent
  • Watching movies from when you were a kid
  • Experiencing something new
  • Having a clean room
  • Bubble baths
  • Blowing out candles, on any occasion
  • Painting on a canvas
  • Someone scratching your back
  • Monarch butterflies
  • Having a sleepover with friends
  • Golf carts
  • When the light shines just right through the trees
  • Art museums
  • Falling asleep in the car
  • Hot chocolate with cinnamon
  • Getting a tattoo
  • Being at the pool on a summer day
  • Man buns
  • Planning a road trip
  • Acing a test
  • Finishing a paper
  • Hearing a little kid laugh
  • Forgiving someone
  • Sleeping with the windows open on a chilly day
  • The sound of the rain
  • Finding the perfect pen
  • Getting a hug from someone you’ve missed
  • The smell of babies
  • Earning recognition on something you’ve worked so hard for
  • Making someone laugh
  • Eating warm chocolate chip cookies
  • Seeing a dog with floppy ears
  • Spending time with my sisters
  • Feeling confident
  • Learning something new
  • Light shining through the trees
  • A smell that triggers a memory
  • laughing with the people you love

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
