In grade school, I vividly remember watching all of the "Schoolhouse Rock" videos on repeat. I actually had a DVD with all of the videos on them and I would just watch them for fun because that's how much I loved it. I do still watch these videos from time to time and I enjoy them like I'm watching them for the first time. You get the same learning experience every time you watch the video. I came up with the idea for this article when I was scrolling through ABC's throwback section on their watch ABC app. They had numerous "Schoolhouse Rock videos," so why not put them in order of best to worst (in my opinion). (For the purpose of the list, I have decided to exclude the Earth Rock songs as I did not realize they were a thing until I wrote this article)
Numbers 1-10:
All of the songs that I have listed as 1-10 I think are some of the most recognizable songs in all of Schoolhouse Rock. They might not necessarily be my favorite but if you ask someone what "Schoolhouse Rock" is and they don't know, play one of these songs and they will definitely recognize at least one of them. There are a lot of Grammar rock and Multiplication rock that make up the top 10, probably because it is so catchy.
1. Lolly, Lolly, Lolly Get Your Adverbs Here
2. Interjections!
3. Conjunction Junction
4. I'm Just A Bill
5. Three Is A Magic Number
6. Electricity, Electricity
7. The Preamble
8. The Shot Heard 'Round The World
9. Interplanet Janet
10. Figure Eight
Numbers 11-20:
The next ten videos are still recognizable but it takes someone who knows "Schoolhouse Rock" a bit to know these videos. Again, Grammar Rock and Multiplication Rock kind of dominate this section but I brought in some Science Rock and Money Rock as well. "Tyrannosaurus Debt" is probably the only one that is controversial here but I think it's one of the better videos which is why I placed it in this section.
11. Ready or Not, Here I Come
12. My Hero, Zero
13. Unpack Your Adjectives
14. The Great American Melting Pot
15. Telegraph Line
16. Elementary, My Dear
17. Verb: That's What's Happenin'
18. Tyrannosaurus Debt
19. Dollars And Sense
20. A Noun Is A Person, Place Or Thing
Numbers 21-30:
There is a lot of History Rock videos listed in these ten videos. I would think that's because the History Rock videos, while being really well done, were never quite as popular. There are some Grammar Rock videos that made it here too and I rounded out this section with some Science Rock because Them Not-So-Dry Bones is such a quality video. I've seen on other lists that Sufferin' Till Suffrage has been placed higher up but I just wasn't a big fan of the video to put it any higher on the list.
21. No More Kings
22. Elbow Room
23. Naughty Number Nine
24. Busy Prepositions
25. Them Not-So-Dry Bones
26. Mother Necessity
27. Fireworks
28. A Victim Of Gravity
29. Sufferin' Till Suffrage
30. The Tale Of Mr. Morton
Numbers 31-40:
As I get further down the list, I find it easier and easier to put them into a list because I either really like the video or I really dislike the video. Most of them left are Science Rock or Money Rock as well so they're very easy to put into a list. I don't really think there are any controversies on this part of the list because I think all of them are lower list material.
31. The Body Machine
32. Tax Man Max
33. Lucky Seven Sampson
34. Three Ring Government
35. $7.50 Once A Week
36. Do The Circulation
37. I'm Gonna Send Your Vote To College
38. This For That
39. I Got Six
40. Where The Money Goes
Numbers 41-49:
I finally reached the end of the list and as I said for the earlier section, I found this to be pretty easy to order. I think the only thing people would disagree with is "Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla." People really like that song but I just don't think it was very well done. I just don't really like that song.
41. Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla
42. The Check's In The Mail
43. Walkin' On Wall Street
44. The Four Legged Zoo
45. The Good Eleven
46. The Energy Blues
47. Little Twelvetoes
48. Presidential Minute
49. The Greatest Show On Earth
Overall, I think everyone can agree that "Schoolhouse Rock" is great no matter how old you are. You can always watch these videos and learn something from them, which is fascinating. We can disagree on what videos are better than others but Schoolhouse Rock will always have a special place in my brain.
