The Go-To List For Article Ideas
Huffington Post

Often times, you'll find yourself stranded, thinking of a good topic to write an article about. If you don't relate to this statement, you're lucky. Often time I find myself having a talk like this in my head.:

-Do you want to write about music?
-Probably not, it won't get many hits.
-OK, fair enough. How about a local thing?
-Amber... you don't go outside enough to do that.
-Haha, true! Okay how about...

And just like that, my brain simply stops. We're left at the 'how about...' and usually go off to bed. So after being annoyed at myself for never penning up an article (and also screaming at my laptop to work...) I decided to come up with a neat way to find an article idea. Hopefully it works.

Idea 1: What's Going On?

Check out the local news around you. Is there a topic of conversation that's worth writing about (Ex: In Philadelphia, we have the wildly discussed sugar tax on everything you drink). If there isn't anything in the news that pops out to you, it may be best to hold off on local news and jump to something world news related. Perhaps check out some widespread news articles and jot down your opinion. It's always best to aim for the popular topics where each side has strong opinions, such as politics.

Idea 2: #Relatable

Relatable articles are always spread around. Did you have an experience that totally ruined your day? Was this said experience in a grocery store? If so, perfect! ''Five Experiences in Grocery Stores That Need to Stop". See that? I just wrote your article for you. Relatable articles are always hits with viewers, and often times are easy to sit down and write once you formulate your ideas together.

Idea 3: The Review

Reviews are always a great way to not only get your enjoyment or anger out on a topic, but it's a great way to promote it! Reviews, especially with newer releases, are always looked for by viewers. People love to know the quality of something before they spend money to see/hear/or own it.

Idea 4: The Personal Piece

While sometimes tough to write, a personal piece is always a good read. From an uplifting tale of overcoming a tough obstacle to a rough, heartbreak piece, personal articles are always moving. Not only do they make the reader feel close to you, they also give them a little peak into who you really are, along with what you've actually been through. Personally, I enjoy writing personal articles because they also make me feel a little better emotionally.

Idea 5: The GIF Article

When all else fails, go to GIF Articles. While easy to create and #relatable to the audience, GIF Articles grab the attention to your audience. Just find a topic and make a GIF list up for it, ba-boom.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
