8 Lines From 'Hamilton' That Describe Finals Week

Laughing through finals week can either be actual happiness or hysterical.

It’s finals week. We don’t expect to get a lot of sleep, but we expect a lot of coffee, studying, and music. In which case, I recommend Hamilton. The Hamilton Broadway Musical came out in 2015 and was written based on an Alexander Hamilton Biography by Ron Chernow. Lin-Manuel Miranda has earned 11 Tony Awards and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize Winner for Hamilton. Now is the time that we might earn A’s because of these lines in Hamilton.

1. Alexander Hamilton - “Then a hurricane came, and devastation reigned / Our man saw his future drip, dripping down the drain / Put a pencil to his temple, connected it to his brain / And he wrote his first refrain, a testament to his pain”

This is for the time where we check our grades and realize they are not to par and we have to start taking everything about college serious, but also rant about it on various social media sites, because finals week feelings are #relatable.

2. Helpless – “Boy you got me helpless”

This lyric describes the time when we look at our first final exam question and realize that there was so much more to study than what we did. Those Netflix binges you had a night and a half ago aren’t going to help you on your Calculus final, as much as you wish they would.

3. Wait for It – “We laugh and we cry and we break / And we make our mistakes”

This is just the entirety of finals season. This is how we feel, and hopefully, we don’t cry, break and make mistakes as much as we laugh. Laughing is good medicine, but laughing through finals week can either be actual happiness or hysterical.

4. Non-Stop – “Why do you write like you’re running out of time? / Write day and night like you’re running out of time?”

Timed essays on exams are by far the worst part of an exam, whether you have to write a paragraph for an open-ended question or a five-paragraph essay. The only way to finish those writing sections is trying to answer the questions if they get pre-released prior to the exam and memorize those answer.

5. Take a Break – “Take a break / I am on my way / There’s a little surprise before supper and it cannot wait / I’ll be there in a minute, save my plate”

This is all we want during finals week. We want a break and to go home and enjoy a meal made by mom. Rushing home after finals is the best feeling. We can make it through finals. I believe in us.

6. Washington on Your Side – “Try not to crack under the stress, we’re breaking down like fractions”

This is just self-explanatory. We are doing our best to keep our sanity, and in doing so, we lose sleep and drink too much Starbucks.

7. One Last Time – “One last time, let’s take a break tonight / And then we’ll teach ‘em how to say goodbye”

During studying, we have to remember to take study breaks so our brains don’t explode. And after those exams, we’ll be able to say goodbye to that semester-long class along with those lectures that make no sense.

8. Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story – “Have I done enough? / Will they tell your story? / Oh, I can’t wait to see you again / It’s only a matter of time”

After all the finals are done, hopefully, we’ve done enough. The semester ends and we get to go home and tell our stories to our families. I can’t wait to see my friends again, but heading home is the only thing on my mind right now.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
