Ah, the Republican Party, the GOP, the predominantly white and southern supported party… wait, what?
See, the Republican Party that we know now just doesn't sound like the Republican Party we knew. Many people believe it's because the party changed some of her core values but the truth is, they haven't changed at all. So how did the republicans come from the saviors of slavery to losing the black vote? In order to answer that, you must realize that politicians are indeed very smart. You see, politicians hold more alliance to their party rather than their country.
First of all, realize that the a Republican Party was founded on the division of the Whig Party over the topic of slavery expansion to the west. Whigs in the north formed a new party known as the Republican Party which brought in great support. So great, that they rivaled the Democratic Party just as their parent party once had. With Abraham Lincoln at the forefront and face of this party bing the first candidate and all, they created a philosophy that spoke against big government. The party shifted focus on economy as the wealthy business owners who were now taking lead of the party thought they had served their purpose to the African American community. So, as the economy rose, the Republican Party was dominating as their focus was very prevalent in the nation however that all changed when something known as the Stock Market Crash happened which not only led to the Great Depression but out next point as well.
Secondly, the Democratic Party became the limelight for the individual. They focused on handouts and aid to the individual during their times of need which appealed to their emotions and well, depression during this time. Now as all that is taking shape, about 30 years later with the election of Lyndon B. Johnson, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passes. Now with the Republican Party still opposing small government just as they always had, they saw this as a gateway for big government to be turned free. This is where we need to applause the intelligence of the Democratic Party. See, the Democratic Party never stood for equal rights for the minority and none of the supporters sure as hell felt they should. Though, with Barry Goldwater and he rest of the Republicans opposing the bill in the name of small government, the African American vote sways over to the democrats as it is now perceived that it is the Democratic Party that is advocating for the minority while it is the Republican Party opposing it. The white southern voters now angered at the passing of this bill leaves the Democratic Party and now sides with the Republican Party. In essence, the democrats have dumped off their fan base and stolen the opposition's. Now back then, it would've been seen as a stupid move to do that but realize that America is increasingly becoming non-white. The further that trend continues, the more power and support the democrats are receiving.
In conclusion, it comes down to the Hispanic and Female vote. The Democratic Party has more appeal to both of these groups as they now taken on a minority advocation philosophy but the republicans have given face to some key new figures such as Marco Rubio. However, over the years the republican support has wavered in trust for party leaders which opens the door to an outside business tycoon who appeals to passion, Donald Trump. The Republican Party is becoming weaker by the minute despite how they are perceived. The Democratic Party have successfully mugged their support and the perception of their ideals just in time for them to grab the minority audience which is carrying the majority support and well the majority votes, how convenient.
