Lin-Manuel Miranda Named Entertainer Of The Year

Over the last year, Lin-Manuel Miranda has truly become a pop culture icon in every sense of the word. He sings, he composes, he acts, and he does everything else in between. After his record-breaking success as the writer and star of the Broadway smash hit "Hamilton," for which he won a Pulitzer Prize, a Grammy, and countless Tony Awards, it's no surprise that Miranda has just been named Entertainer of the Year by the Associated Press. From throwing down rhymes on stage at the Richard Rodgers Theater, to creating the soundtrack for Disney's newest princess "Moana," here are 13 times Lin-Manuel Miranda truly earned his EOTY title.

1. He turned the 70th annual Tony Awards into the #Hamiltonys.

Hamilton took home a grand total of 11 Tonys, and absolutely no one was surprised.

2. He even managed to take over the Grammys.

Much of the world outside of the Broadway community was first introduced to Hamilton during the cast's live-streamed performance, during which they accepted the award for Best Musical Theater Album.

3. He helped make James Corden's Broadway "Carpool Karaoke" truly a gift to behold.

A bunch of Broadway legends all together in one car singing your favorite show tunes? Sign me up. In addition, we also got to hear James Corden absolutely kill the rap in "Guns and Ships" which was also such a blessing.

4. He rocked the cover of many important mags, like GQ and Rolling Stone to name a couple.

5. He hit one million followers on Twitter and started the best #1MillionGifs party the internet had ever seen.

6. He reigned as the king of the daily pre-Hamilton #Ham4Ham shows.

And shut down the NYC streets on more than one occasion.

7. He teamed up with some of the best performers and dropped the most fire mix tape of the decade.

Kelly Clarkson's "It's Quiet Uptown" in combination with John Legend's "History Has Its Eyes On You" is enough to make a grown man cry.

8. President Obama basically became his number one fan.

We can pretend all we want, but the Obamas will always be the founders of the original Lin fan club.

9. He delivered one of the best opening monologues that SNL had ever seen.

In addition to his three minute rap journey through NBC studios, he also gave us gems like "The Crucible Cast Party" sketch.

10. He played a major role in writing and composing the soundtrack for Disney's "Moana."

You could almost just go ahead and call him a Disney princess.

11. He slayed everyone, including Jimmy Fallon himself, when he killed it during "Wheel of Freestyle" on The Tonight Show.

12. He became possibly the most entertaining "Drunk History" host Comedy Central has ever seen.

No time is a bad time to Facetime your buddy Questlove.

13. And on his journey to becoming master of the universe, he basically became America's sweetheart in the process.

Even before AP bestowed him with this great honor, it was pretty clear to everyone that 2016 was truly the year of Lin-Manuel Miranda. From founding fathers to Disney princesses, to dropping mixtapes and winning Pulitzer Prizes, Miranda has conquered it all this year. If anyone were to ever truly earn the title of "Entertainer of the Year" in every sense of the phrase, he definitely takes the cake. I guess it's safe to say he....didn't throw away his shot (#YAYHAMLET).

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
