And why he is an inspiration to many.

Why Lin-Manuel Miranda Is An All-Around Amazing Human

Lin-Manuel Miranda is probably one of my favorite human beings who can be classified as a "celebrity." He has written two broadway shows: "In the Heights," which won five Tony awards, and "Hamilton," which won 11 Tony awards with the cast album winning a Grammy. He has also done other work on musicals on Broadway, including "Bring It On: The Musical." He has lended his talent to television and movies as well including "How I Met Your Mother," "Modern Family," "The Sex and The City Movie," and more. He is immensely talented and driven, which is why he is such an inspiration. Here are just some of the reasons why he is such an inspiration and an amazing human.

1. He cares about voting

This may seem silly, but let me explain. He, as well as the cast of his musical "Hamilton", have been encouraging their fans to vote in this election. With such a controversial election and campaign, it is important to make your voice heard and vote! It is a right that is given to us as citizens; why would you waste that?

2. He is soooooooo funny!

He is so down to earth and funny, just your everyday-dude who has written two award-winning broadway musicals. He was on SNL and Carpool with James Cordon, and his interviews are always hilariously charming!

3. He is humble and thankful

By some of his expressions, it's like he doesn't expect all of the love, support, and rewards that he gets for his hard work! He is so talented and hardworking, yet so humble about his achievements and thankful for every opportunity awarded to him. I want to be like that.

4. He is also passionate

If you haven't watched Miranda's Tony acceptance speech, please pause your reading of this article and go do that! He is passionate about people, about the world, about musical theater, and about helping others. This shows when he talks about voting, working with kids, and any project he has worked on or is working on currently.

5. His dancing is probably some of my favorite

His dancing is so cute and a little awkward and it makes me super happy....all I have to say.

6. He wrote an amazing musical about the Founding Fathers using Hip Hop music....like how?

Lin-Manuel Miranda did something that no one has really done before: wrote a musical about American history using modern day hip-hop music. You would think this would be weird or turn out really bad, but it is actually really interesting and cool! As Leslie Odom Jr. says (see last gif), Miranda made the founding fathers and their history make sense in the context of this time period. He made them relatable and cool, and gave us a history lesson we never knew we wanted. Check out the full album on Spotify, and check out Lin-Manuel Miranda and how awesome he is!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
