The Lily Pulitzer vs. The Urban Outfitter

Preppy vs. Edgy.

31

Are you a Lily girl or an Urban girl?  Do you wear pastels, floral, and prints galore, or do you wear black, leather, and beanies?  Do you wear neither and represent your own style, or do you rock both?

In college you realize how much fashion has to do with who you are and how you present yourself to the people around you.  Fashion is not just fabric on your body: it’s a representation of who you are and how you want others to perceive you.

Your sense of style tells people a lot about yourself.  Some people are preppy while others are edgy.  Some people identify with a mixture of both preppy and edgy, and others just wear whatever the heck they want.  Lily Pulitzer is one extreme, and Urban Outfitter is the other extreme.  So what does it mean to be a Lily Pulitzer girl or an Urban Outfitters girl?

Girls who wear Lily Pulitzer are seen a certain way, whether they like it or not. The assumption is that they are preppy, peppy, and love floral everything. Resort wear is their middle name. They probably also own staple pieces like Jack Roger shoes and a monogram necklace.

In fact, if you’re a preppy individual you probably have a monogram on everything you own, from your towels to your bags and virtually all things in between.  Pearls are an everyday accessory and you have your share of colorful headbands and a plethora of bows.  You are classy, you have money, and you wear your cardigans wrapped around your neck.

On the other end of the spectrum are the urban outfitters girls.  They are urban, hipster rebels dwelling in cities who wear quite the opposite of the Lily girls.  They are the opposite of peppy and are characterized as chill, edgy, people who steer away from colorful, girly outfits and turn to black, leather, flannels, and comfy clothing.

Beanies, dark eye makeup, and black combat boots are essentials, as well as Doc Martens, Vans, and converse.  Also included in the Urban Outfitters attire are the hippies. They wear Birkenstocks, circle sunglasses, and bell-bottom pants.  Urban Outfitters represents a wider range of styles than Lily Pulitzer does, yet they are still polar opposites.

What you wear and how you choose to present yourself shows a lot about your style, but both your personality and preferences too.  Assumptions may be wrong in many cases, but the general view of a person is how you initially come off to someone.

When you meet a girl wearing Lily Pulitzer you may also assume that they listen to Taylor Swift and country music, whereas you came across a girl wearing Urban Outfitters attire you may assume they are into Drake, rock, or electronic music. Once you get to know that given person, you learn their true personality and preferences, which may be completely different from what you assumed based off of their style.

At the end of the day, you are either the Lily Pulitzer, country club-esque girl or the Urban Outfitters, street styled city-dweller.  Choose wisely.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
