A year ago, the world knew him as Miles McCollum and now after two mixtapes with more features than I can count Lil Yachty has taken the music world by storm. The straight edge Atlanta rapper's entire life changed because he decided to give music a try after he saw his friends recording. Although his success was very sudden, Lil Yachty's music has really resonated with mostly people under the age of 30 in what many would call an overnight success and getting him a massive following. Noting that his songs promote positivity and energy, Yachty's live performances are stricken with such hype he's seen as a rockstar similar to Famous Dex and Lil Uzi Vert.
While many older hip hop fans claim Yachty's raps are "high school" Yachty defends his creativity and continues to grow his fan base and be a strong contender in streaming charts. Facing a similar criticism as Soulja Boy did when he emerged as an artist, Yachty is disliked by a mass majority of older listeners due to him being something new and different. In the '90s, it was Biggie and Nirvana, and now it's artists like Yachty and Lil Uzi Vert. He's definitely apart of the new wave in his formula of making catchy songs with unique beats that aid him in making his live performances rowdy with crowd surfing and mosh pits.
Modeling for Kanye's Yeezy clothing line and having hit song "One Night" in plenty of Vine videos made Yachty even more of a known online presence. The entire process behind Lil Yachty's rise to fame is what inspires others. He went from being a college dropout to eating lobster on a boat in a year all because he stayed on his craft and at the age of 18 has success that many others don't get for years. Whenever I'm discussing Yachty I get a lot of why questions like "Why is he famous?" or "Why do you like him?" and "Why would anyone be inspired by him?" Lil Yachty's standing with the youth resonates so well because in a digital age with everyone showing their creativity online anyone could be the next Lil Yachty and that's what makes him inspirational to younger audiences. He did what they could do and he's a reflection of a pretty huge chunk of the youth now. He's weird, he's creative, and active online. With this we saw him do what plenty of people only hope for and we can definitely agree that he's made a way for himself, whether you dislike him or not.
LIL BOAT!
